Genetic counseling is usually recommended (and typically covered) for 35+, whether or not fertility issues are in the mix. I had it at 38 and 39.

I have made an upcoming appointment to a new gyno, due to moving I had to switch but maybe it's for the better as my old one never really said much when I brought up the subject of trying for a baby. So I will discuss it all with her and mention some of the tests that were said here and that my husband hasn't had any testing yet.

He does really want kids, but.. He hates going to the doctor for anything and he rather shy about the subject, meaning he doesn't feel comfortable taking to a doctor about 'personal' stuff. Not sure why, he hasn't really ever been to a doctors much at all. I think he keeps hoping it'll just happen without having to do anything else. After my appt, I will have a serious talk about it and try to explain why he needs to have it done. Also, he is more relaxed about our ages then I am. I feel we're getting to 'old' and see each day ticking by. He, thinks there's plunty of time still and isn't as concerned. I think that's why he has put it off to.

So, hopefully after seeing the gyno we can get a plan going and start checking off some of the tests and reasons we may not have been able to get pregnant so far. I will try and update after the appt!

KyraT - thanks for your experience! Wow if they offer a home test kit for the sperm analysis he would have no issue getting it taken care of! That is great, I'll have to check and see if ours offers that also. Just wondered, has your insurance covered most of this, if not do you know costs? We are thinking to start a fund and start saving in it for any expenses that may come up not covered by insurance. Just not sure how much would be a good amount to save.
Your husband needs to get comfortable talking to his doctor about 'personal' stuff. This is the only way that he can be treated for whatever illnesses/conditions he may develop in later years. It may be embarrassing but if the doctor doesn't have all the information, he can not accurately diagnosis the problem or give the correct treatment.

Is your husbands reluctance to see a doctor due to fear that he might be a part of the problem? Yes, things might happen naturally but if you have been really trying for 7 years without success, it's time for both of you to get checked out. After both of you have been medically checked, you can decide what the next course of action might be.

It took me 10 months which had me concerned so I can only imagine how you feel. My OB put me on femara for CD 3-7 and advised me to try acupuncture, which I did twice a month. I also asked my OB for progesterone as it seemed I had a deficiency (you can tell this by tracking your cycle and having a short luteal phase). My acupuncturist advised me to eat more fat which is needed to produce progesterone. It was the month after she told me to eat more fat, and three months after starting progesterone and acupuncture that I got pregnant! I am sure if I wouldn't have taken those measures and advocated for myself I'd be doing IVF right now but instead I'm 18 weeks pregnant!

What type of acupuncture did you do? what do you tell them when you make appointment? I have read about acupuncture and thinking about trying it out myself. does it hurt? Did you tell them you want something for fertility purpose? Is there certain time of the month you should go

Yes, it's less invasive but they still have to test both partners, because sometimes both partners have infertility problems.

I searched for 'fertility acupuncture' or some variation therein and found several choices. You can have a consultation for free and learn more about it. I actually found a school that had an instructor who ran a successful women's acupuncture practice and went to her clinic days and it ended up being much more cost effective.

It does not hurt, it's very relaxing and something I looked forward to! I can't recommend it enough, the whole approach is unlike anything you'll find in western medicine and they really look at your entire lifestyle including what activity you do and what food you eat. They will advise you on the best time to go, but usually the week before ovulation and week when implantation would occur. Every single time I went and ovulation was close I'd ovulate the next day. It was amazing.

I work in medical so am not easily persuaded on alternative approaches but am sold on accuncture and will encourage anyone trying to conceive to give it a shot!

I've heard stories on thyroid support groups from women who finally got pregnant once they got thyroid supported...whether all those lab numbers say "normal" or not. So so often, some support is needed in spite of what numbers say...we are NOT numbers.

In case you would like to check about them here is their website Donor Egg Bank. Find Egg Donors Now - First Egg Bank
I'm sorry, Sofia. This just seems like spam to promote a clinic. I wouldn't trust any medical clinic that had people schilling for it online.

I tried for nearly 9 years to become a mother. I was told at a young age that it would be nearly impossible because of my PCOS I had one of the worse cases. My mum and family knew at a young age that something was wrong as I developed very early and had terrible symptoms all throughout my youth and into adulthood.

I went to my obgyn, whom was also certified in infertility practices as well. We tried different medications, different schedules I grew tired of this after a few years and gave up.

I Lost my brother last year and I guess I just let it all go... I changed the way I felt about it, the way I prayed about it.

last year I started drinking herbal teas that would naturally balance your reproductive system..

Spearmint tea, green tea, chai tea, all natural remedies and i cleaned up my eating habits. I also took a fertility aid for a few months and what a shocker... still no pregnancy I stopped taking supplements and just stuck with my diet and again let it go.

I was at work one day and got very sick, throwing up very dizzy i thought for sure i had the flu. I went downstairs to the emergency room they tested me for impaction, and done a urinalysis to check for uti and pregnancy I rolled my eyes and said i can assure you its not a pregnancy...

The doctor came back into the room about 30 minutes later and told me i was going to be a mother. I was already nearly 8 weeks pregnant.

It will happen for you I adopted a daughter also before all this. Whether you get to carry one in your tummy for 9 months or love and welcome them into your little world and hearts... It will happen

wishing you good luck and many blessings to come, I just know you will get a little miracle <3

Yes. As they say, often "couples" are infertile, while individuals are not.

Sometimes a couple will try for years to conceive, and then break up, and each member of the couple then goes on to be a parent.

Sometimes, both of them have minor infertility problems that a partner who is very fertile can compensate for.
