The noise is negligible. Two short "toots" at the crossings instead of the long blast by the freight trains. The trains usually consist of 4 cars and two engines which pass by in seconds. You can't really see inside the cars in the daytime and I haven't yet seen one at night. They've had a few instances of cars stuck on the tracks in the last few days. One due to an accident, the other involving a person who thought the tracks were a roadway. The coordination between local authorities and Brightline prevented any problems. So far so good.

I attempted the "home version of the game" by writing down when trains passed through here (and which direction they went in) but it's not predictable at all. I'd hoped to formulate a schedule of when to expect a train, so I could augment my own routine to avoid them...but the conductors must not be trying too hard to maintain a timetable during the middle points of the journeys.

Prices are too high for most daily commuters, except the affluent who work near enough to a station to be able to walk or cycle the rest of the way to work.

This is targeted towards tourists who are trying to avoid the cost of a rental car, would prefer to ride & not drive, & are willing to use 2ndary forms of transportation once they exit the train.

As it stands right now, I can't see this making money as a private venture. I'm betting it will eventually be transitioned into a local taxpayer boondoggle. They'll use bed, & rental car taxes to offset some of the losses. They'll use State & Federal funds to pay the rest to spread out the financial pain. Disney & the cruise lines might pay some small portion of the losses, since it benefits them directly.

My husband and I are taking a trip to Panama next June and we may need to fly out of Miami because American is cheaper than Copa out of Orlando (Orlando is closer for us) so I thought that I would check into the Brightline to see if we could drive to West Palm and take the Brightline to Miami International. I discovered that the train does not even go to the airport. You have to take a taxi or Uber from the Miami station to the airport which is really unbelievable that you would build a train that does not make it more convenient for the travelers. So we will probably just drive. So stupid.

Thx for this info, I didn't know that it didn't go to the Miami airport. I guess they were more focused upon the cruise ports than airports. Does it stop at any airport? WPB, Ft. Lauderdale, or Orlando?

If it did stop at the Miami airport, was the price good enough to still save you enough $ to be worthwhile?

When major cities get built out, they no longer can create transportation corridor's for mass transit. The gov't planners should set aside easements to anticipate future rail needs. Freight trains don't need to go to airports, but people do, so this was a lack of planning by the City of Miami decades ago.

Tri-Rail will take you from West Palm directly to Miami Airport for $5 per person/each way on weekends.

The glitch: Parking in West palm can be very rough (Mangonia Park is the northern most station and it is in a very remote/rough area). Parking is free there but leaving a car there for weeks could be dicey.

Several news stations have done the math, BL falls apart very quickly if you are traveling with kids/multiple people. For West Palm to Miami TriRail is far cheaper and has a much better schedule.

Ugh. Yeah that’s what my husband just said. He’s not leaving our car in West Palm while we’re gone. Lol. I would really love to use public transportation but Florida is really not making it easy on us.

Unfortunately the only airport that the Brightline goes to in Orlando International. It seems to go downtown in West Palm, Ft Lauderdale and Miami. So I think it’s pretty useless for travelers trying not to drive to airports. Having to get shuttles, taxis or Ubers defeats the purpose. Very disappointing.
