Events scheduled for the weekend of July 2-24

LAST CALL FOR CRUSH WINE BAR

Before Crush Wine Bar closes its doors, it is holding one more long, last call, a two-day block party.

The City's development plans have forced Martin County's only dance club out of the Triangle Property its occupied for the past five years.

But they are not leaving quietly.

The farewell party is 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday with DJs and bars inside and outside. Drink specials will be offered all weekend and include $1 Miller Lite Drafts and $5 three olives vodka drinks and more. Raffles and giveaways add to the fun for the 21-and-older crowd. There will be a $5 cover charge after 10 p.m. So just dance, dance, dance.

LOL WITH LETTERMAN'S WARM-UP GUY

Eddie Brill warmed up the "Late Night with David Letterman" audiences for 17 years. The veteran comedian, who compares his stand-up style to his hero George Carlin, has two shows this weekend.

On Friday night check him out at The Stillery, 2196 S.E. Ocean Blvd. in Stuart. (You can't see the bar from Ocean Boulevard, as it is behind Walgreens.) Tickets to the Stuart show are $25 in advance, including two premium beers, or $30, including two top-shelf cocktails. Purchase tickets at Casey n Spaz Comedy or at the door for $30 and $35, respectively. For more information, call 772-210-6413.

On Saturday night, Brill takes the stage at The Sunrise Theatre's Black Box theater, 117 S. Second St. in Fort Pierce. Tickets, including service charges, are $18.50 at Sunrise Theater Fort Pierce - Official Site and at 772-461-4775 or $15 at the door, if available. There is a full bar and free popcorn. Both shows start at 8:30 and will have other comics filling out the lineup.

ENJOY FREE MOVIES

Stay cool inside the Treasure Coast's historic theaters. Free classic movies are offered weekends through the end of August.

This weekend The Lyric Theatre in downtown Stuart is offering two choices of Oscar-winning films. "Chinatown" starts at 3 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. "The Usual Suspects" shows at 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Look for "Gone with the Wind" next weekend.

In Fort Pierce, the Sunrise Theatre shows free movies every other weekend. ON Sunday, the R-rated "Good Will Hunting" starts at 3 p.m. Next up is "Lincoln" on Aug. 7.

The free tickets are only available at the box offices. For more information about the Lyric, call 772-286-7827 or visit Performing Arts and Concert Entertainment in Stuart, Florida | The Lyric Theatre. For the Sunrise, call 772-461-4775 or visit Sunrise Theater Fort Pierce - Official Site.

SUPPORT LOCAL LIVE MUSIC

Remember, every musician started out as a local artist. Check out one of these diverse acts and support local live music.

Two well-respected musicians will perform Friday at Terra Fermata, 26 S.E. Sixth St. in Stuart. Joel DaSilva and the Midnight Howl are known for high-energy rock and blues and will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. Abby Owens, a talented singer-songwriter, closes the night out with an "unplugged" mellow performance until midnight. It's worth the $5 cover charge to see and hear DaSilva's guitar skills.

Jack Maravell, the frontman for McCartney Mania, is performing solo from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Orange Bloom Restaurant, 101 N. Second St. in Fort Pierce. There is no cover for The Beatles and More show, but reservations are recommended. For more information, call 772-466-5474.

Hear The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra perform the works of Borodin, Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky at "Three Masters" 3 p.m. Sunday at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd St. in Vero Beach. Tickets are $20. For more information, visit Home - Space Coast Symphony Orchestra or call 855-252-7276.

WATCH TEENS ON STAGE

The teen actors from The Riverside Theatre's summer camps will star on the main stage of the state-of-the-art theater this weekend only in "13."

The rock musical tells the story of a New York City boy dealing with his parents' divorce and subsequent move to a small town in Indiana and worrying about who to invite to his upcoming bar mitzvah.

The feel good, coming-of-age story, which Ariana Grande once starred in, is PG-13. Adult tickets are $12; children are $6. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 and 4 p.m. Saturday.

CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS IN JULY

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in July at Riverview Park, 600 U.S. 1 in Sebastian.

The annual event, which raises money for the Shop with A Cop program that helps make the holiday brighter for needy kids in the area, includes a car show, food, face-painting, silent auction, raffles and vendors. The family-friendly event goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. An interactive scavenger hunt starts at 11 a.m. and Santa also is scheduled to stop by.

Many vendors and artists will showcase nautical- themed masterpieces and treasure hunting artifacts.
One treasure salvor who will be at the festival is Jupiter native Capt. Mike Daniel, whose discoveries include Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, and its treasure, and the Galleon Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas, which was lost for hundreds of years off the coast of the Bahamas.
A replica of the Queen Anne’s Revenge will be at the festival, as well as another pirate ship, The Avenger, which is 40 feet long with five decks.

Looks like former UF Gator Quarterback and NFL player Tim Tebow is coming to Port St. Lucie to play for the St. Lucie Mets. This is a good business move for the Mets organization I am sure it will increase attendance for minor league games.

St.Lucie Mets sign Tim Tebow

September 11th Remembrance Ceremony on 9/11/16 at 8:30 a.m.

SATURDAY SEPT 10 Port St. Lucie residents and visitors are invited to light a candle in honor of the fallen victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. The Honor Guard of the St. Lucie County Fire District and the Port St. Lucie Police Department will be standing post by the memorial. Luminaria bags and candles will be provided.

Sunday, Sept. 11, the public is invited to remember the 9/11 victims and first responders at a memorial ceremony, which will include guest speakers, the Treasure Coast High School Symphonic Band and rifle salute. The ceremony will feature an “evacuation call,” which is a three-horn blast to signal evacuation or “10-13” officer assistance. The ceremony will be interrupted four times to ring a bell in memory of the four tragic events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001: 8:46 a.m., AA Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of World Trade Center; 9:03 a.m. UA Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower of the World Trade Center; 9:37 a.m. AA Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon; and 10:37 a.m. UA Flight 93 crashes in Shanksville, PA.

Also on display at the ceremony will be artwork by high school students at Lincoln Park Academy, who have teamed up with the City of Port St. Lucie to beautify “traffic cabinets,” throughout the city. These students have painted memorial images to honor Sept. 11 victims. These images will be transferred to a vinyl wrap that will cover the traffic cabinet outside the Civic Center at Walton Road and Main Street. A prototype of this cabinet will be on display inside the Civic Center during the ceremony and for about two weeks afterward.
