Scoping out Pittsburgh locations for a potential future move and I'm somewhat attracted to the Moon area. Does the noise from the airport make it miserable to live there? Thanks.

well the airport itself is pretty quiet...unless they have kenny chesney play a concert on the runways....but the planes...whoo boy.....

seriously tho, the hush regs in effect make it pretty transparent. if you are indoors you wont know they are coming and going. if you have a choice, and must be off the end of any runway, 14/32 is a good choice. due to normal winds the triple 10/28 pairs will be busier.

Post Hub Pittsburgh is likely quiet compared to the past. IKEA built the outside dining area for plane spotting but it’s not the same nowadays.

I live in Upper St. Clair, not Moon, but in the 80's & 90's we had much air traffic flying overhead.
That has been reduced dramatically since PIT no longer being a hub, thanks to USAir's demise.
The airport was built to USAir's specs , but poor management and broken promises has resulted in the current state of affairs.
Of course, the state of the airline industry has changed tremendously, and not in a good way.

Thanks for this. True. And now they're spending more$$$$ to remodel what many still refer to as the "New airport".

Anyway the noise is very negligible. Robinson is probably louder.

The airport "right sizing" is surely needed. People underestimate how large the terminal truly is. Most of the corridors are cordoned off and out of sight. I do not think you can access the third set of moving walkways in any of the terminals nowadays. In the 90's Mellon Bank would frequently fly employees from Pittsburgh to work temporarily in Philadelphia. Back then either terminal C or D was used for red eye corporate flights (US Air) or private corporate jets. I believe D was Us Airways International Flight gate? The amount of traffic back then was amazing but US Airways is long gone. The "new" airport is no longer conducive to regions needs or finances.

The airport rightsizing was fully financed by the current airlines.

When I was in North Carolina, I had a boss who would fly into Pittsburgh for national meetings with people from all over the country. They would fly in, meet, and fly home. Never left the airport. It was a different world.

Yeah it's actually possible that Robinson gets more noise, particularly as planes descend and pass right over it.
