Oakmont is a rich island surrounded by slums. Sewickley is too far from the action. Millvale, Blawnox, and Aspinwall all offer walkable mainstreets with a closer proximity to Lawrenceville, The Strip, and downtown.

actually, a 'Grom' is a small honda street bike, 125cc but you can get 185cc big bore kits like he has. top speed, maybe, down the big runway at pitt perhaps 90mph - mebbe. but it gets 90+mpg so...

he exits his apartment a block away from the sewickley bridge, 65 to ft dukie bridge, take the convention center exit....his 'biking' is riding a cy....the whole speed limit is 40mph so in his bailiwick (yet he tells us stories of having to use 100mph down 65 to dodge whacked out killers on his honda F4....)

I always like using this site. It also explains what “walkable” means.

Its interesting they score that higher than Bellevue. In terms of pure walkability I say Bellevue is better, much more within closer walking distance.

It is okay. Has Oakmont rated much higher than Aspinwall. Oakmont has no real grocery store, but Aspinwall has a huge Market District with sidewalk to its door and a movie theatre of size. Can’t agree with them on that

This is helpful and I checked out my current neighborhood as well and there are definitely a few key businesses missing, but this seems look a good tool overall. I have personally always lived in neighborhoods with sidewalks and some level of walkability and I definitely prefer the option to walk or bike if possible.

I actually disagree with Sewickley being all that expensive. The "Sewickley area" is expensive, but that is mostly attributable to Sewickley Hills, Sewickley Heights, and Edgeworth. Sewickley proper is more of a middle-class borough. You can find a two-bedroom apartment for only $1,000 a month, and homes within walking distance of the business district can still be fairly affordable.

Dormont gets a 91 walkability score. "A walker's paradise" they say. LOL.

I like visiting Sewickley, but could never live there. Dealing with Rt 65 daily would be rough.

A negative of Walkscore is their algorithm is based entirely on how close you are to amenities (shops, parks, schools, etc.). It doesn't take into account the actual walking infrastructure at all, which is why Miami (which is dense, but doesn't have a great walking experience in most areas) ranks so highly.

I challenge the walkables to live in the 90% of Dormont that is big steep hills. Same for Mt Lebanon. Unless you live near the West Liberty/ Washington Rd ridge, or you're 12 years old, those places are not walkable.
