I think the mostly likely project in the medium term is a downtown rail loop along the ceremonial Confederation Boulevard routing which is basically Wellington in Ottawa and Laurier in Gatineau (Hull) via two bridges on the east and west sides (neither of which is the Prince of Wales).
The loop could be integrated with the last leg of a tramway project that is in the planning stages for western parts of Gatineau through Hull, the Plateau and Aylmer.
Given everything that has happened since 2020 (pandemic, work from home, public finances) not sure this will ever get off the ground, but apparently they will try to make it happen.
As for the Prince of Wales Bridge, my guess it's more in the long-term that it might be used. I don't see it as Plan A for a rail transit solution across the river.
It was or is being converted for recreational-only use I believe.
yes i think you are on the right track there ( see what I did) I hope they do something with the Prince of Wales, it seems to attract a lot of swimmers, fishers in the summer and there have been a few deaths in the last couple of years
As a transit buff, I'd still like to ride the Confederation Line the next time I'm in Ottawa. I've already ridden the Trillium Line. Now if they can only connect Gatineau to Ottawa by rapid transit, that would also be nice. Easier said than done I understand.
I always thought the trillium trains looked cool. Isn't the trillium line being upgraded with new trains and a line extension to the airport this year?

Yeah, we've mostly been talking about the new Confederation Line, which is O-Train Line 1.
The Trillium Line (O-Train Line 2) was actually the first line, and was basically grasping low-hanging fruit due to an existing rail line that they put a bare-bones passenger system on. Like the Confederation Line, one also got the impression it was pretty slow.
You are correct that the Trillium Line is being upgraded and extended substantially. Currently it's completely shut down so that the existing segment can also be re-done. And yes it is being expanded to the airport and to some suburban areas to the south of the city as well.
It's now scheduled to be ready for the spring of 2023.
The Confederation Line is also undergoing a major expansion both to the east and west. I believe these segments will open in 2024 and 2025.
Not going to defend the crosstown here - it is abysmal and shameful - especially considering how many have been impacted in the nabe's along it in terms of construction delays and uprooting their hoods .. for .. so .. long.. - however at least it appears they are not opening it at all until presumably they get it right. This cannot be said of the Trillium line.
ffs does Ontario need to get whoever constructed the REM in Montreal in on this or what lol. I mean get er done Ontario - sheesh
I just hope that when the Eglinton crosstown and the Trillium lines open that they function properly. No disprespect to our Ottawa freinds but the confederation line has truly been a disaster. Probably the worst transit project I have seen anywhere.
