I frankly think this is a good thing.

We know it isn't safe to breathe gas fumes for long periods of time. So why would we insist on teens and others labor for 40 hours/week breathing gas fumes? The negative health effects are real. The only reason we have put up for it so long is simple inertia. If we were to invent some new job where teenagers were expected to handle tens of thousands of gallons of volatile petrochemicals and breathe toxic petrochemical vapors for 40 hours per week without any protection, people would be enraged and would be screaming about exploitation.

At least this way you are only breathing your own gas fumes once a week and by your own choice, instead of 40 hours/week to earn a paycheck.

I never smell fumes. Pretty sure technology has really mitigated this issue.

What technology?

I'm pretty sure that Portland is the only place in Oregon that requires vapor recovery nozzles and they aren't 100% effective.

Interestingly, this appears to be one of the most popular topics in this Oregon CD forum along with Oregon's population shrinking for the first time in 30 years. Not that they are related, but I guess pumping gas is High on the list of things to be concerned with. So, are you pumping your gas yet or preferring to wait for the pump jockey?

Derek

I have a really cool car that everyone wants to drive, so I'll just leave it at that. Wouldn't wreck my day too badly if I had to pump it myself, but I'd prefer not to.

Yes, just one more example of out-of-staters coming and gathering enough voting power to turn Oregon into whatever state they arrived from. Move to Oregon from California and the Oregon way isn't good enough for them. They want to do things the California way.

And they continue to be amazed that they are disliked by the locals.

Well, pumping gas is far from one of the worse problems Oregon has. I have family who live just outside Portland and they say it is not safe to even go into town for groceries.
