Here's a little Ohio joke. A few years back I heard a weatherman say this on his morning broadcast: Where is Engagement Ohio? Halfway between Dayton and Marion!

I know a festival just happened recently in Cincinnati, around 600,000 people attended!

It was Riverfest.

Great shots here:

I am returning to the Mother Land of Ohio. We leave August 31st. Should take us a week to get down there (driving). We'll be heading into Southeastern Ohio area. I'll miss Alaska of course, the mountains which are so beautiful they sometimes don't look real. But, the beauty doesn't compare to missing your family. And Ohio has some absolutely beautiful parts. My husband and I both feel it's time to move on (and in my case, it's moving back). He is from NY originally.

The Canadian Rockies are another beautiful place. I'll be taking pictures (again), took lots when we drove down in June and came back in July. Somebody please just give me instructions on how to post pics. Everytime I try it, it doesn't work. Thanks!
I wouldn't want to leave Alaska if I lived there. I hate OH.

I've been without power for about 2 days now. Duke energy said it could take up to a week for some people to get their power turned back on. There are still about 538,000 people without power in SW Ohio, 281,000 of those in Hamilton county. Three people were killed by trees and a child is in critical condition. I've also heard conflicting reports about looting. A lot of the stores are closed because of the power outage. Meijer and Kroger are the only grocery/department stores that are open near my home. Even Wallyworld is closed. Some of the gas stations are running out of gas because people are panicking. Gov. Strickland declared a state of emergency.

On a lighter note, I actually look forward to going to work. I've even been early for the last two days. Oh, and Oktoberfest is this weekend. At least there will be a nice end to a dark and boring week for some.

Yayoi, thanks for shopping at Meijer! We got our power back on Tuesday but STILL don't have cable and internet (Do you know how hard that is on a C-D Junkie???) It was a good week at work, though. Kept those Meijer stores stocked up and powered up! Our neighborhood had only minor damage and no trees or limbs damaged houses...we were lucky. Just North of us in Kettering and Oakwood, they got hit pretty bad. Some up that way STILL don't have power. They have lots of beautiful old-growth trees, though...

All in all, though, I think it could've been MUCH worse. Mild temps and no rain really helped out a lot! And the stories of neighbor helping neighbor are heart-warming!
