There are so many misconceptions about The Villages I thought I'd set some things straight. I moved to The Villages 16 months ago from MA. I just couldn't stand the cold and snow anymore. So, ask away any questions you have about living here and I'll do my best to answer honestly.

I wish more people who made the move into a 55+ would post afterwards. I think they are so overjoyed at their new life that it is the last thing on their mind. Thank you.

I am also from NE and have vowed that I will not see another NE winter. Besides golf, what other amenities are you using and do you still feel like the HOA fee is worth it?

First, yes I think the amenity fee is worth it. There are many things to do if you want like Pickleball, Billiards, Card Clubs, A big softball organization, Photography club, Powered model airplane club, a beautiful Polo field, Car Clubs, motorcycle club, Many Bicycle clubs, Tennis, Hundreds of swimming pools, Bus trips to many different places. The Town Squares have free entertainment every night (I'm going tonight). There are hundreds more clubs to join if you want. Whatever interests you, there is a club for that. A one hour drive to Orlando, An hour and 15 minutes to Tampa.

Worrying about sinkholes is a waste of time. On my home insurance sink hole coverage is built in. Yes, there was a sink hole in the northern part of The Villages and the news media sensationalized it over and over.

If any of you are interested, The Villages has what they call a lifestyle preview program. They put you up in a very nice bungalow home with a golf cart plus you have access to all the amenities. There is no pressure to buy anything. Just come to look and see. The price is more than reasonable. I did it myself.

I have heard, that there is a $25,000 deductible, on the Ins. Just wondering if that is true.

The deductible depends on your carrier but yes it can be high. Hurricane insurance also has a higher deductible but I don't think you will find it close to 25000. I think this is an option you have to elect with most carriers.

There are two types of sinkhole insurance. One is built into everyone's homeowner policy by law. But you are probably thinking of the additional insurance and that can be expensive and you may not be able to get it.

My assumption is that sinkholes happen more in areas that have ponds due to leaking water.
