Perhaps because the original request was for homes in the 300K range within 60-90 minutes of IAD.

Winchester really isn't unrealistic. I once sat next to a guy on a flight who was a very frequent traveler working for a manufacturer and constantly flying from one client site to another to help with installations, and that guy specifically lived in Winchester for access to Dulles Airport. It's definitely in the 60-90 minute range given by OP.

Winchester is basically a straight shot up Route 7. When our daughter was in elementary school, we were living in Sterling. One of her classmate's family decided to move to Winchester. The Dad had gotten a job in Herndon and figured that it wouldn't be too bad of a commute.

Out of curiosity, I took a look as to what is available in Winchester these days.

Here's a 2 bedroom 1 bath house:

This one is a townhouse:

There are a few more out there. Many in OP's price range are either "contingent" or "pending". This is another market where inexpensive properties get snapped up quickly.

When looking at the listings---it occurred to me that many of these properties aren't in Winchester proper but use Winchester as their address. With such properties, one has to check and see if they are connected to sewer and water or if they have well water and septic tanks.

She works one flight a week, so there's no reason to be so dramatic about one two-hour drive home per week.

The very first line of the OP said they were " tired of commuting for work". So, the closer-in options are better recommendations.

NO idea why it's dramatic to state that some posts are NOT realistic. You do realize that work involves round trips, assuming no traffic, good weather, etc.

In the context of flight attendants "commuting to work" often means you fly in from a different city to start your shift in the city you're based in. So you may be based out of Dulles but still live in for example Atlanta and when you work, you just fly in. It's apparently pretty common, but you can see how that might be more tiresome than a 60-90 minute drive.

Yes - it looks like OP is based in Miami now - wasn't entirely obvious at first that OP was talking about being tired of air-commuting!

Thanks VV for adding this info!

I thought that I was exhausted by DMV commutes. Pppphhhttt. I don't think the average public truly understands and appreciates what real long distances commuters must endure.

Thank you, Veritas Vincint and Watchful for additional insight. No matter how-off-the-rails CD commentary sometimes gets, you both always provide calm, polite, reasonable, common-sense insight in CD Maryland and Virginia forums.

I would recommend Moorings of Occoquan. Occoquan is a sleepy little picturesque town in Prince William, juried artists, street cafes, right on the water, across the bridge is Fairfax County. Even better yet, I95 is 1/4 mile. I live in this area and can be on 95 in under 5 minutes. There are a couple condo developments in this range.
