Richmond isn’t a college sports town. Hampton Roads doesn’t even know that college sports exist. Neither metro cares at all about NASCAR (does anyone these days?).

I’ve lived in Ohio. I know what college sports fanatics looks like.

Comparing every college sports market to Ohio State's isn't a fair standard. People in Hampton Roads are in to college football.. ODU getting football has helped too.
The idea that Hampton Roads doesn't care about NASCAR is inaccurate. Don't know how long you've lived in Hampton Roads, but you see car number stickers on people's cars (you'll even still see some #3 stickers), and there used to be a local chain of NASCAR retail stores (I remember the one in Pembroke). I'd guess NASCAR ratings in Hampton Roads/northeast North Carolina (local TV market) are higher than average.

I agree with the sentiment of your last question tho, NASCAR has faded from it's mid 9os/early '00s popularity. /peace

Depends where you live. We moved from New England to Charleston, SC and I've never heard so much "Yankee Go Home" and "you Northerners ruined our town" as I have here...

And no, I'm not one of those "Back home we did it this way".

When I first moved here and went to the DMV to get my SC license, the clerk saw that I lived prior in MA. She made a comment - "Oh, you're from up North". I said yes, and how pretty I thought Charleston was and how much we liked it and she said "All you Northerners came here and ruined everything".

OK, well, we weren't the ones who SOLD the land for the developers to build on OR the Chamber of Commerce who ran ads in every Coastal Living magazine to "Come on and move to Charleston", now are we? Of course I didn't say that, but there is not a lot of "live and let live". "Yankees" are very much looked at with disdain and often told to go back home where they came from.

You should have replied, "Why bless your heart!", if only to see her reaction.

There are Confederate monuments in Richmond, but the remaining ones are in graveyards like Hollywood Cemetery. The Monument to the Confederate War Dead (90' granite pyramid) will not be removed; in 2020 the Stars and Bars flag is no longer permitted to be displayed, if it is gravestones that is permitted, but not the flag by graves.
I endured that briefly while living in NC but decided the only way to curb that was to counter with another somewhat subtle putdown. A favorite is with a seriously contemplative face say "Weren't you in the movie Deliverance"..?? Something about your face and demeanor."
