There was a thread not too long ago about the dating scene. The dating scene for men is not so good. However other people might think otherwise.

It's easy to meet people. but harder to find a serious relationship because there's so many people to choose from so people get picky.

That stat gets over-used and over-analyzed. Just because there are 200,000 more women doesn't mean there are 200,000 more heterosexual single women than single heterosexual men. Women outnumber men in a lot of places.

yeah but the men aren't all straight either...so the number of men is slightly lower as well. Give or take, there are a lot more women in this city than men. That alone makes it more difficult.

Granted I just think the actual impact of the difference on the dating scene is over-stated.

Single men outnumber single women in practically every part of the country, including New York, if you just count adults up to age 40 or so. It quickly reverses, so for those over 50, almost every part of the country has more single women than men. Much of this is because it's common for a married couple to divorce, with the man remarrying a younger woman. There's a big difference between absolute total of women/men and the total of *single* women/men.

Most of the origin for the stat of New York's gender imbalance comes from the number of men raised in high poverty neighborhoods that end up murdered or in prison. This effect is seen in most ghettos across the country.
