OP, check out Montclair NJ. It's a great little town with plenty of nice restaurant/bar options in close proximity to home and the train station. It's just over an hour to Penn Station via the train (hour and ten minutes).

1hr with direct trains to Manhattan include: Metuchen, Edison, Iselin (45 min direct trains)

colorado to union, nj. OUCH, its too much of a change. you might want to go to morris county to get more beauty. union county is also nice like cranford, westifield, scothplains, but union is not that nice but very decent commute .i would recommend montclair and south orange. very close to nyc and nice downtowns iwth quaint restaurants. if it were me, i would move to morristown area, so much to do , so pretty , but its like an hour train to nyc

you might find more inventory in edison area, you can take amtrak or nj transit to nyc from metropark, but not as many downtowns area. summimt is nice but way expensive.
oh yeah dont forget rahway its pretty close to cranford and very good commute, lower cost
