The Ramones first tour to England. The played at the Roundhouse in London, to a packed audience - including the guys who would later become the Sex Pistols. (they had not yet formed a band)
On this day in 1959, J. P. Richardson Jr, better known as The Big Bopper was killed in a plane crash in Iowa along with fellow musicians Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. How many here in the Music Forums remember "The Day The Music Died?" I do.
A local radio station has a feature where a song is played that has some sort of significance, often for the day. Today it was:
February 4th, 1977. Fleetwood Mac released Rumours, which became only one of eight albums to sell more than 40 million copies. Recording took 6 months in 1976, delayed at times by infighting among the band members (two couples had split), lots of partying, and drug use. Most of the recordings required several takes due to cocaine use.
The first song, "Second Hand News", has some rather telling lyrics about the internal dynamics of the band and his relationship with Stevie Nicks:
"I know there's nothin' to say / Someone has taken my place"

As soon as this virus stuff gets licked, it's time for me to take a road trip to the Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock! Members of the Beatles,Rolling Stones, and other British invasion bands have said on many occasions that it was Elvis, Buddy Holly and others like Valens and Orbison that got them to get involved with making music. Another treat is the Buddy Holly sock hop/record show in Clear Lake, Iowa that usually is on the first weekend of February. The only downside is the butt-cold weather. The upside? Lots of 50's/early 60's music for sale and trade. Only been to it twice but it was a blast!

I'm wondering if this ugly thing is ever going to end but, if I'm still able to still get around. I'll try and meet you at Lubbock.
I agree on the influence of Holly on future rockers from what my brother has told and what I have been able to learn. No doubt he influenced many country artists as well.
My brother sends me something new on Holly every February. This year he sent me this video that had a picture and info he had never seen with Elvis and Holly and a few others. https://youtu.be/SkVTVnpPlrE
