Today I saw a motorcycle pass vehicles on the shoulder. This was a two lane state highway. Guy pulled to the shoulder and passed several vehicles.
Many who ride consider this an acceptable risk. Part of the attraction of motorcycles is getting around traffic. Don't like it? Don't ride a motorcycle. Just don't be the self-appointed keeper of the emergency lane and swerve in front of a rider just because you don't like what they're doing.
Splitting lanes actually started in the 1940's by the CHP bikers. Glad they did........I commuted for over 35 years in Kaleefornia and the white line was the only thing that kept me sane.........went thru over 40 motorcycles and only had 1 idiot squeeze me into a drop on the white line. Got out fine.........still here a lotta years and a lotta miles later.........yeeeeeehaaaaaw.....
Myself and a couple of buds were heading north east on Hwy 133 in SoCal to some regional park. Traffic was stopped, and the road was narrow, no room to split lanes. The shoulder had a strip of pavement about 36 inches wide, and I started up it. My buds followed, and we were moving right along, until we heard sirens. They quickly got back in line, but I kept going cause I could see the firetruck and the ambulance in the center lane, so I knew the sirens weren't about me. Keeping an eye on things, I was looking over there when a CHP on a bike went by. He was looking right at me and lifted his right hand to point straight at me, then continued on. I moved back into line.

No, altho I have been to Cook's more times than I can count. A friend of mine had a nice grey Victory with all the bells and whistles; fairing, 'shield, bags. He got some very nice pin striping in green and gold done on it by a guy working the Cook's parking lot. I went there several times to get my BMW R1100RT done, but could never find the guy.
