WVU Medicine will now cover tuition reimbursement for the children of employees with 5 years or more service.

They already covered the employee's tuition. Now their children will also be eligible if they have 5 years service. It is an attempt to promote long term service for the organization. This is true regardless of where in the organization's system those employees work, in Morgantown, from the Eastern Panhandle to Parkersburg, to Glen Dale, to Fairmont, to Beckley and places in between.

There will be a ton of construction going on this year at WVU Medicine in Morgantown (not including the new addiction rehab center that is going to be built near Mylan Park). WVU Medicine will be adding another two floors to the physicians office (the left side of the hospital, this will help make the hospital look a lot less lopsided), not one but two new parking garages and the children's hospital construction will start this year (still planned to open by end of 2020).

"2018 is the year in which the next phase of campus construction will proceed. Planned improvements include adding another two floors to the physicians’ office at Ruby Memorial Hospital along with two parking garages."

"In late 2017, WVU Medicine announced plans to build a new tower to house its women and children’s hospital, the construction of which is scheduled to begin in 2018. Once completed the new WVU Medicine Children’s will add 150 beds and have its own operating rooms, pharmacy, cafeteria, neonatal intensive care unit, obstetrical unit and lab. The rooms will have more privacy and be more family friendly. The 10-story tower will cost $152 million and is scheduled to open in 2020. The tower will be attached to the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute. It was also WVU Medicine’s most talked about topic on social media for the year."

"WVU President and CEO Albert Wright said the main hospital in Morgantown is seen now as a large institute with a more general approach to medicine. However, during the next few years, he plans for J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital to function more as a campus with about five or six sub-specializations where West Virginians can seek treatment without having to travel out of state."

"WVU Medicine’s Human Resources Department received 66,500 applications in 2017 and hired a total of 2,723 employees overall that year. An average of 240 employment interviews are conducted weekly, and there are still 185 physicians’ positions the institute seeks to fill. It now employs more than 14,000 people altogether and is the largest private employer in the state."

WVU Medicine has a momentum of it's own. It benefits not only North Central WV, but also the state as a whole. I don't have any access to inside information, but I believe the amazing growth of that entity is nowhere near reaching it's potential. It is bringing world class medicine to wherever it locates. If it isn't in your community yet, need to push for trying to get it there.

"Another physician is leaving Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center to join West Virginia University’s growing medical system."

"Carl Schmidt, a nationally recognized surgical oncologist, will join the West Virginia University Cancer Institute in July, the Morgantown university announced Tuesday. He is the latest doctor or executive to leave Ohio State for West Virginia University, where former Ohio State leader Gordon Gee is president."

"Schmidt, who specializes in cancers of the liver, pancreas and stomach, will serve as chief of surgical oncology and surgeon in chief of WVU’s cancer institute."

"Others recently departing Ohio State for WVU are Dr. John Campo, former chairman of the university’s department of psychiatry and behavioral health; his wife Rhonda Campo, former associate executive director of the James Cancer Hospital; and Dr. Ali Rezai, former director of Ohio State’s Neurological Institute at Ohio State."

They are coming from Wexner and also from UPMC, attracted by the first rate leadership in place at WVU Medicine and the opportunity to make a real contribution to improving the lives of people in West Virginia. That is why WVU Medicine is nationally ranked. Our state now has a world class medical establishment.

I imagine we will soon see construction on at least one of the two parking garages WVU Medicine said they will be building this year. The trailer park across from the football stadium has been torn out and the house at the top of this hill was completely removed in one day on Thursday. Looking at the lot, if the parking garage covers most of the lot, it is going to be a massive parking garage.

Any chance you could post a picture next time you're over that way?

Hopefully that at a minimum, plus I’m hoping for a nice design (brick and metal like the one downtown). I also hope they follow through with the pedestrian bridge that was mentioned as a possibility. I wonder if they will have to put a traffic light in.

David1, I’ll try to get a couple pictures later this week, probably on Thursday when the weather gets nicer.

Speaking of parking, according to the BOG Agenda for Friday, WVU and WVU Medicine will finally tear down the Med Center Apartments for more parking at the hospital (not stated if surface, which is likely, or garage).
