Getting rid of wood ovens just to reduce a few particles is a dumb move that will impact the soul and dining culture of Montreal.

Wood is part of a short carbon cycle. Shouldn’t affect the level of CO2 in the atmosphere much unless they’re burning wood from old growth virgin forests. Not a fan of this nanny state garbage

Ha Ha, now I get the intentionally mis-spelled word for would in the the thread title - wood one!

Wooden ovens may be a novel idea. Wood burning ovens are great for cooking.

Someone from Montreal may know the details, but it appears this has been in effect since 2018. It's not a full ban but restrictions on emissions.

"Fireplaces and wood stoves will have to meet strict pollution standards, emitting no more than 2.5 grams per hour of fine particles."

"Businesses that use wood ovens are exempt from the bylaw."

https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/ban-on-w...ne%20particles.

Not sure what you mean by "cook-offs" but personal barbecuing and barbecue restaurants are quite popular here. It's nothing like in the Southern US, mind you.

Ironically she said she opted for gas-fired cooking which also might be on the chopping block sooner than we think.

A suburb on the south shore of Montreal (Mont-St-Hilaire) recently announced a ban on gas appliances and equipment I believe. (It only applies to new stuff I think.)
