This is nothing to be proud of, but.....
Missouri has a lot of Outlaw History.

Cole Younger
The outlaw Cole Younger was born as Coleman Younger in Harrisonville, Jackson County, Missouri on 15 January, 1844. He joined an outlaw gang whose other members included Jessie James, Frank James, James Younger, Bill Chadwell, Clell Miller and Charlie Pitts.
James Younger was supposedly born in Harrisonville, Jackson County, Missouri on 15th January, 1848, although census records show his place of birth as Indiana [See the Younger family in the Bob Younger
Robert Younger was born in Harrisonville, Jackson County, Missouri in December, 1853

Jessie James
Jessie James was born in Clay County, Missouri on 5th September, 1847

Frank James
Frank James was born in Clay County, Missouri on 10th January, 1843

Belle Starr
Born Myra Maybelle Shirley in 1846 in Missouri, nicknamed Belle, this female outlaw went on to marry Jim Reed, another outlaw, in Texas in 1866, after he was killed she married Sam Starr, another outlaw, in 1880. Some time after Sam was killed in 1886 she took up with Bill July.

Bloody Bill Anderson
One of the best known and most feared of all Missouri Confederate guerrillas was William Anderson who, surprisingly, considered himself a Kansan.

Roy Gardner
Roy Gardner was born on January 5, 1886, into a bone-poor family of sodbusters who settled in Trenton, a wart of a town in the heart of Missouri

Bonnie and Clyde
At the time they were killed in 1934, they were believed to have committed 13 murders and several robberies and burglaries. Barrow, for example, was suspected of murdering two police officers at Joplin, Missouri,

A few more. This massacre took place within a 1/2 mile of some land I own on the Audrain/Callaway County line:

The Ham Brown Massacre

Callaway was at one point an independent "kingdom," and is still known as the Kingdom of Callaway:

Callaway County History (http://callaway.county.missouri.org/kingdom.htm - broken link)

And don't forget the bloody Centralia Massacre:

Centralia Massacre (Missouri) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Little known, but interesting parts of Missouri history.

Why should i be ashamed or anyone else? This all happened before any of us were born. There was plenty of rotten stuff that went on during the Civil War era; both sides as well as the robbers.

We went to St Joe and saw the Jesse James house and the town. Big history there with the Pony Express and Jesse James, all in one place!

There was also some sort of massacre around Republic, Mo (Greene Co) if I remember correctly, something involving a farmhouse and a sherrif?
