TETON JACKSON (1840s-1893)
He came from Joplin Missouri.
Started as a scout for General Crook.
He then lead a gang of horse thieves in Wyoming where he was captured and sent to prison.
There he stabbed a guard and escaped and was caught two years later. He tried to escape
again and was killed.


MILT SHARP (1850s-1900?)
He was from Lee Summit Missouri.
Moved to California as a teenager in 1869 and began working in the mines.
He then decided to rob stagecoaches (about 20 in his career)
He never shot anyone and always apologized to the people he robbed.
His career ended when he was caught and sent to prison.
He was one of those outlaws that buried his loot and as much as Wells Fargo tried to get him to tell where the money was, he kept quiet. Two treasure hunters in 1910 discovered one of his stashes but it is estimated that most of his loot is still buried somewhere.

BUCK STINSON (1800s-1864)
Born in Indiana moved to Andrew County Missouri
He left for Montana where he murdered a friendly Indian chief for no reason and began bragging about it.
The outlaw/sheriff Henry Plummer made him one of his deputies.
After numerous robberies and murders committed by Plummer and Stinson, The town folk formed the " Montana Vigilantes " and quickly lynched them.


ROY DAUGHTERY (1870-1924)
Born in Joplin Missouri.
He went by the name of Arkansas Tom Jones.
Joined Bill Doolin's Wild Bunch.
In 1893 he killed a deputy marshal and was captured by Jim Masterson.
He was released from prison in 1910 and ran a restaurant in Oklahoma,then moved to Hollywood hoping to get into movies but that didn't work,so he went back and robbed a bank in Neosho Missouri. He was caught in 1917 and released in 1921 where he robbed another bank in Asbury Missouri. He was killed by lawmen in Joplin Missouri in 1924.


MARION HEDGEPETH (1856-1909)
He was born in Prairie Home Missouri.
Served 7 years in the Missouri penitentiary for larceny and jail breaking.
Joined the Slye-Wilson gang in Kansas City.
Robbed a train near St.Louis of $ 40,000
He was caught in San Francisco and brought back to Missouri.
He served 14 years and was arrested again in 1907 in Iowa for burglary.
He was released after 1 year and was shot to death in 1909 by Chicago police while trying to rob a saloon.

FRANK LOVING (1860-1882)
Born in Jackson County Missouri
Moved to Dodge City and became a gambler.
He became famous for being involved in 2 gunfights, " Long Branch Saloon Gunfight " and the one he was killed in " The Trinidad Gunfight "

JOHNNY RINGO (1850-1882)
Born in Indiana,moved to Liberty Missouri
He left for Texas in 1869 and got involved in the Hoodoo War (A war involving rustlers and vigilantes)
There he killed several men while riding with the Cooley Gang. In 1877 he was locked in a Texas jail with John Wesley Hardin and Hardin complained to the sheriff that he shouldn't have to share a cell with someone as mean and dangerous as Ringo. Johnny Ringo broke jail and escaped, then teamed up with rustlers Pony Deal,Curly Bill Brocius and Ike Clanton in Tombstone. While there, a drunken Ringo saw Holliday and Wyatt Earp in the street and challenged them to a shoot out. Holliday replied " I'm your Huckleberry " (which translated to " Let's do it ") But a deputy got between them and calmed things down. Johnny Ringo went to live with his sisters but they didn't want anything to do with him. By now he was suicidal and on July 14 1882 his body was found near Turkey Creek shot thru the head.


CLAY ALLISON (1840-1887)
Born in Tennessee,moved to Texas and New Mexico then bought a ranch in Sedalia Missouri where his daughters were born. He served in the Confederate Army but was discharged when doctors discovered a head injury caused him to be epileptic and maniacal. He once cut a man's head off and placed it on a pole in front of a hotel.He was fast with a gun and was involved in many gunfights and died when he fell off a wagon and the wagon rolled over his neck.

ROY GARDNER (1884-1940)
Born in Trenton Missouri
He deserted from the army in 1906.
He went down to Mexico and became a gunrunner during the Revolution.
He was caught and was sentenced to death by firing squad but escaped and went back to the United States where he became a sparring partner for Heavyweight Champ J.J Jeffries. He gambled away all his money and robbed a jewelry store in California but was caught and sent to San Quentin. When he got out he began robbing trains and mail trucks. He became famous for his many escapes from prison. He once saved Al Capone from an assault in Alcatraz. He wrote his autobiography and a movie was made about him. He committed suicide in his hotel room.


JOHN JARRETTE (1836-1906)
He was born in Kentucky and moved to Jackson County Missouri.
He rode with Quantrill and the James/Younger gang and was involved in 5 bank robberies.
It's rumored that he died in British Columbia.


JESSE EVANS (1853-?)
He came from SW Missouri.
He and his parents were arrested in Kansas for passing counterfeit money. After his release he went to New Mexico and became a cowboy for John Chisum. He then joined the John Kinney Gang and killed several men before starting up his own gang. His gang was hired to oppose Billy The Kid's Regulators in the Lincoln County War. He was caught by the Texas Rangers and sent to Huntsville prison. He was pardoned in 1882 and never heard from again.

HARVEY LOGAN (Kid Curry) (1867-1904)
" The Wildest of the Wild Bunch "
He was born in Iowa and then he and his brothers moved to Dodson Missouri to live with their aunt.
He went to Texas to work on a ranch breaking horses,he then headed north to Wyoming and Montana where he killed a man in a gunfight. He and his brother Lonnie joined up with outlaw Black Jack Ketchum but left after they felt they were cheated out of some money they stole from a train. They then began riding with butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, by then Curry had already killed a few lawmen and the Pinkerton Agents were on his trail. A posse caught up with him in Colorado and wounded him and to avoid capture he took his own life. He is reported to have killed 9 lawmen.


ALVIN " CREEPY " KARPIS (1907-1979)
Born in Canada and raised in Kansas,he moved to Kansas City Missouri.
His criminal career started when he was 10 selling pornography,running around with pimps,gamblers and bootleggers.He met one of Ma Barker's boys while in prison and joined the gang when he got out. After a series of crimes involving kidnapping,killings and robberies he was finally captured in 1936 and spent 26 years in Alcatraz (The longest any prisoner ever served there.) He was moved to McNeil Island Penitentiary when they shut down Alcatraz and that's where he met a young Charles Manson.

ROBERT CAREY (1894-1932)
Born in St.Louis Missouri
He joined Egan's Rats and became close friends with Fred Killer Burke.
He participated in many robberies and murders in Cincinnati,Detroit and Chicago.
Was suspected in being involved in The St.Valentines Day Massacre. He headed to the east coast with his girlfriend and began blackmailing prominent businessmen and politicians. He then began a high quality counterfeiting operation but went berserk one night and shot his girlfriend to death and took his own life.He was also suspected at one time to be involved in the Lindbergh kidnapping.


THOMAS " RED " KANE (?-1910)
St.Louis Missouri
Another Egan Rat
In 1909, Fred " The Yellow Kid " Mohrle was leaving a St.Louis courtroom with his attorney when Red Kane pulls his gun and splatters Mohrle's brains all over his lawyer. He then goes across the street to the cop station and tells them " I just burnt the Yellow Kid " He later claims self defense but dies of kidney failure before his trial.


ROBERT CAMDEN (1901-1974)
" Robin Hood of the Ozarks "
In and out of Missouri prisons for robberies and murders during the Great Depression.

MEARL TURPIN (1892-1937)
Born in Monett Missouri
He was never the same after receiving a head wound while working as a switchman for the railroad.He had disciplinary problems in the army during WW1 and in 1920 he robbed a mail car and spent 12 years in prison. He was killed by police in 1937 robbing a bank in Springfield.


BILL RUDOLPH (1883-1904)
" THE MISSOURI KID "
Rudolph and his sidekick George Collins robbed a bank in Union Missouri, Then killed a Pinkerton Detective who was trailing them. They were arrested in Connecticut and brought back to Missouri where they were hanged.


SAM " WOLFMAN " MASON (1739-1803)
He was a river pirate born in Virginia and moved his operation down to Caruthersville Missouri.
That is where he was captured by the Spanish. He claimed he was just a simple farmer but they found $7,000 in currency and 20 human scalps in his baggage. He escaped but was wounded and the Governor put a $2500 reward out for him. It is not known if he died from his wound but one of his gang brought his head in to claim the reward and was hanged.

GEORGE COE (1856-1941)
Born in Missouri.
George and his cousin Frank left Missouri and went to New Mexico where they chased rustlers.
They once broke into a jail and lynched a horse thief. They rode with Billy The Kid in the Lincoln County War and George was arrested for the killing of Buckshot Roberts at Blazer's Mill but was granted amnesty by Governor Lew Wallace.


HERBERT FARMER (1891-1948)
Webb City Missouri
He and his wife operated a safe house for bank robbers and other criminals during the 1920s and 1930s.
They were involved in The Kansas City Massacre and Herbert was sentenced to 2 years at Leavenworth and later Alcatraz.


CORA HUBBARD (1877-1900s)
Born in Ohio and moved to Callaway County Missouri.
Cora and her brothers robbed a bank in Pineville Missouri and received a 12 year sentence.
She was released in 1904.

DR.BENNETT CLARKE HYDE (1872-1934)
Born in Cowper Missouri
As an anatomy instructor he was charged with grave robbing in 1899.
He married into the richest family in Missouri and poisoned 3 of his in-laws to increase his wife's share of the estate. After 3 attempts at a retrial the charges were dismissed.


FRED " KILLER " BURKE (1893-1940)
Born in Kansas, fled to Missouri as a teenager.
He joined Egan's Rats and then enlisted in the army during WW1 where he was a tank sergeant in France.
He came back to St.Louis and participated with other Rats committing robberies and murders. They then went to Detroit and worked with The Purple Gang as assassins but had a falling out and went to Chicago where Capone welcomed them with open arms. He called them his " American Boys " They began killing people as far east as New York and as far south as Kentucky. They were the prime suspects in The St.Valentines Day Massacre. Fred died of a heart attack in prison in 1940.

VIVIAN CHASE (1902-1935)
Born in Kansas City Missouri
She was arrested for bank robbery and escaped by sawing the bars to cell window and lowering herself down by bed sheets. She fled to St.Louis and participated in the kidnapping of a bank president. She also participated in a string of drug store robberies. She was found shot to death in a parked car at a Kansas City hospital.


THE YOUNG BROTHERS 1932
" The Brookline Massacre "
Took place in Greene County Missouri.
9 Police officers went to the Young family farm to arrest the Young brothers for stolen cars and got ambushed. 6 officers were killed and Harry and Jennings Young fled to Texas where they were killed by Texas lawmen.


GUNN CITY MASSACRE 1872
Near Kansas City Missouri
People were fed up with certain officials who were charged with complicity in the fraudulent issue of railroad bonds that imposed a heavy burden on taxpayers. A train carrying three of those officials along with General Joe Shelby was forced to stop because of rocks and logs piled on the tracks. 80 masked men with guns ordered one of the officials to step out of the train and when he did he was riddled with bullets. They then proceeded to murder the other two and when they called for Shelby he replied, " Here I am,if you want me come and get me " They decided they did not want him. They left and were never identified.
