In 1929 Tom Chewning rented a farm in Benton, Missouri because he had a dream of finding gold coins on the land. While plowing his watermelon patch he found 4400 gold and silver coins dating from 1775-1802 scattered around under the soil.

I am glad I went to the Fair. I saw many interesting things and learned much of the white people. They are a very kind and peaceful people. During all the time I was at the Fair no one tried to harm me in any way. Had this been among the Mexicans I am sure I should have been compelled to defend myself often.
I wish all my people could have attended the Fair.

Oh, that was a trip. Thank you, aliasfinn, for that little trip back to 1904 and a close up and personal look at how Geronimo viewed the 1904 World's Fair in St.Louis. If anyone likes to read about Geronimo like I do and have seen the place his son is buried like I have, which is next to Fort Bowie in southern Arizona, read this account. What an interesting look back through time!

The steamboat Montana

It was one of the biggest ones that came down the Missouri river. It sank in Bridgeton, Missouri in 1884 after hitting a railroad bridge. When we were kids we would see the remains along the river when the water was low.
