For WW2 naval buffs, Missouri native Leonard "Tuck" Smith located the "lost" German battleship Bismarck in the open ocean while piloting a Catalina flying boat over the Atlantic, allowing the Royal Navy to catch it and sink it. At the time this was not reported, because this occurred a year and a half before the US entered the war.

Heinrich Kiefer (1915-1995) was a German Luftwaffe officer who was captured in N.Africa and held in a POW camp in Colorado. He escaped by dying his uniform with brown vegetable juice and was re-captured on a train in St.Louis. After the war he changed his name to Til Kiwe and became an actor in Germany appearing in many movies including The Great Escape where he played the part of " Frick. "

Florissant, Missouri was without power for 10 days. I think that is when some guy had 2 Ameren repairmen trapped in their basket up on the pole with his shotgun and wouldn't let them down till they turned his power on. I remembered that I had just filled my icebox and freezer with groceries and ended up pitching most of it.
I remember trying to sleep in my BASEMENT and it was still too hot.....
