Maybe, but probably not.

The movie is actually based on a book, and the book was inspired by a story the author heard while a student at Georgetown of an excorcism in Maryland.

The legend is that an excorcism was performed on a 14-year-old boy in Maryland that didn't take. When "St. Louis" was found carved on the boy's body the family travelled to St. Louis where a second exorcism was performed.

None of the details of either exorcism have been confirmed, so it may or may not have happened. Adn whether or not it happened is largely irrelevant; the book was written by an author who was simply inspired by the story of something that may or may not have been true, it's not as if he researched the story and tried to present a historical narrative. And what research was done, if any, was likely limited to events in Maryland.

I know, I was just quoting an article I read on the internet. I'm not real big on that kind of stuff, if I were I would post about other urban legends like, MoMo, Zombie Road, Albino Farm, Eli Cobb, The Lemp Ghosts, Devil's Promenade.....etc. The Missouri legends are endless.

There are a couple of impact craters of an ancient age near Decaturville in Camden County and along Crooked Creek in Crawford County. The theory is that a large meteor split apart to create these craters and one in Kansas, I believe, along a straight line (approximately the 38th parallel).

Did you ever wonder where famous people in the 1800s stayed when they came to St.Louis?
Here are some pictures of what the hotels looked like back then. The Barnum Hotel was owned by the cousin of P.T Barnum and President Lincoln was there when he came to town.
