Hello -

My wife and I are considering a possible move to the milwaukee area. We are eyeing up Wauwatosa as a possibility because our first choice, Shorewood, is out of our budget. Not being too familiar with Wauwatosa, can anyone here please share some areas that are in the Tosa school district, close to all the amenities, and are very safe to raise a family? Thanks in advance for your input!

Tosa isn't that safe anymore. Id say the safest part is north west of Watertown Plank Rd. right before you enter into Elm Grove / Brookfield. Even Whitefish Bay has a lot of crime these days.

This is just bad advice, ignore. Tosa is fine and perfectly okay and WFB is also fine and safe. I hear Chenequa is really dangerous too

Say nothing of Ixonia and no what you do stay out of Big Bend, now that's a rough place. While your at it, just stay in your house lock your doors and only go to the store if you have absolutely have to and make it early in the morning just in case.

Tosa is a great choice. East Tosa is densely populated, and some areas are walkable to restaurants, etc. on North, 68th, etc. West Tosa is a little more suburban in feel, more spread out. The area around Old Town Tosa is pleasant, but a bit pricey. I don't know so much about the schools, but Tosa in general is a good community with lots to do.

Oh really? Perfectly fine and safe in relation to what . . . the north side? Fact is crime is spreading out into the suburban areas; even now in Cedarburg where I used to live. The OP wants "very safe." Wauwatosa is not very safe. Better have good locks on their doors if they decide to move there.

Crime in Wauwatosa is lower now than what it was 10 or so years ago:

Of course, "very safe" is subjective. Tosa seems very safe to me, though not "perfectly safe."

Much of the theft and many of the other crimes in Tosa occur at/near Mayfair Mall, and that skews the numbers a bit.

You aren't kidding about that. Last week alone, the police got in a low-speed chase with a Fox Point resident riding a motorized bicycle on the sidewalk, there were two DUIs, several bike thefts, and CVS had liquor shoplifted twice. Twice!

South of Center street is my own personal preference, although northwest Tosa is nice just doesn't feel like Tosa to me. Here's a map to all the Tosa neighborhoods.
