But I'm likely going to the Seattle area instead, as that's where I feel more at home; and I just got a good job offer there.
Pay no attention to the Maryland haters, they post for their own entertainment I guess because it's never constructive. I'm glad you returned and it sounds like you have already made up your mind. Personally I would never live in Seattle, my dad was in Vancouver, BC and I'm very familiar with the area. The weather alone, I prefer sunshine to cloudy drizzle, on top of the cost of housing and overall living would be a deal breaker for me. But it is a beautiful area for sure.

That's where I'm from, on the Kitsap Peninsula, not far from the Bangor sub base. Spent the first 34 years of my life there before getting a contracting job that moved me here.

Nice! I'm in central Maryland (in between Baltimore and Annapolis), and I love Maryland's Eastern Shore -- I've spent a lot of time kayaking and bicycling over there, and I've toyed with the idea of heading that way when I retire in the next 2-3 years.

I actually love the gloomy weather, and COL is still lower than where I live now (Santa Cruz area). But this morning I got an email that put a wrench in my decision making; they offered me a $90,000/yr job in Maryland, literally in the same neighborhood where my sister lives. Now what to do???
