Mayor Lester Miller says the plans include a shopping center, hotel, possible medical offices, and more than 800 homes. He says they'll pay for the land with $10 million in SPLOST funds and more than $3 million from the regular budget, but the county expects it will generate more than $350 million in private investment.

UPDATE- Bibb moves forward with plan for $350M east Macon development; The county will spend $14 million to buy the site of the old Bibb Mill off Coliseum Drive.

"You'll see some commercial property. We've already been in discussion with potential medical offices. As well as parking there. You'll see up to 825 residences there," said Mayor Lester Miller as he presented the plans.

Those 825 'residences' are split between a new hotel, condos and apartments. They'll also include restaurants and retail space in the development, and even a park area, which leads to the pedestrian entrance to the Ocmulgee Mounds.

A natural extension of Downtown. While east of the river and technically east Macon, this is more of a Downtown resurgence project in my mind. It is a prime piece of property.

Default Update

A $350 million investment is planned for East Macon, including a hotel, office, retail and residential space.

Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller says there’s been a need for new transformation in East Macon. He says this new development project will do just that.

At a cost of around 1$3.5 million, the county plans to buy the land across from the Macon Centreplex, the former site of the old Bibb Mill that burned down in March 2022.

I agree, I'm just so excited about the project and I also heard the developers of "Renaissance on the River" Project is bringing it back to life as well. I just wish a developer would buy the 16 Story hotel DT and finish renovating it and get it back up and running. It's about 60% renovated...

Mayor talks about all of the interest from investors in the East Macon $350M development and the Revitalization Development Project at the Macon Mall. I'm excited to see what's coming in 2023.

It is a prime piece of property and it is imperative we get it right rather than just selling to the highest bidder. The future of our conference center, Mill Hill, and the success of increasing tourism related to Ocmulgee National Park are all dependent on how this land is developed.
