Did you Rea BanjoMike's post? It was insightful about choices we make. Ok...I'll say...you're being a bit of cry baby, man. You NEED some philosophy because all you can seem to see is, "People are greedy because I (you) can't afford what you want."

Pardon the pun... but time to MOVE on.

People are "greedy" because they're making money that they can? I own a private sports business in addition to being a teacher (notice the EXTRA work I do to get what I want?) and I set my prices as high as I can while still filling my classes. Greedy? I call it good business.

Did you skip economics lessons? Supply and demand? Or economic systems of the spectrum of capitalism, socialism, to communism?

Quit the whining....

This has to be one of the most peculiar threads I've ever seen posted in the Idaho forums. Housing prices, blaming other people and Jesus?

Best of luck, folk.

I hope you'll find your extra-special little spot where everything is just as you like it best.

It ain't here, though.

Are you going to tell us where the money is going to come from to build the new housing that is going to rent for cheap rent? Construction costs a lot of money. Material costs are high, labor wants to be paid a fair wage for the time they put in. It costs time, labor, and materials to hook up the utilities. It takes time, labor, materials, expensive machinery, and some engineering to prepare the land before it can be built on. You aren't going to find many people who are willing to rent out apartments for a lot less than they cost to build. You want someone to provide you with housing where a bunch of the cost comes out of their pocket and not yours?

And slightly aside from that issue. No one is building $1300 apartments that no one can afford. Those apartments are filling up, which wold indicate that there are enough people who can afford the $1300 to get those apartments rented.

I just got done speaking to somebody in a local business who is telling me they have ample work but they can’t hire individuals because the individuals could not afford the housing here. Funny 98.9% of everybody I’ve spoken to in Pocatello Idaho tells me the same thing. That there is a affordable housing crisis in this area and that the rents are pathetically exorbitant. Everybody. So even though there are people paying $1300 for those new developments in an around Pocatello those people are in the minority there are tons and tons more people of lower income status who are struggling to find a place. If somebody’s OK with that, And they’re willing to justify $1300 rents in the city of Pocatello when there is a severe housing crisis, they are pathetic and they are a part of the problem and they need to go purchase a conscience. Making money is one thing. Not having a conscience is another thing.

Like I said if you support $1300 housing developments in Pocatello Idaho when you are full aware that there is a affordable housing shortage/crisis, then you need to go purchase a conscience. There is zero excuse for the richest country in the world to have hundreds of thousands of homeless or lower income families struggling for housing on a daily basis.

I get the impression your possibly one of those California transplants who take no issue watching states like Idaho and Montana turn into unaffordable California-esque bedroom communities for the average Sue or Joe, who now have to go live in the slums thanks to the heartless elitists swooping in like devilish vultures. Especially during a Covid pandemic when money is tight as hell for millions nationwide.

Well you might want to clean your glasses! You've certainly not followed this state forum much at all.

Mike happens to be one of the oldest natives of Idaho on this forum! And get this, from right here in the Snake River Valley. He knows Old Mother Idaho quite well.

It is no more his fault than it is yours, mine or any other poster on this forum why housing is currently priced the way it is.

I understand, because I watch the housing market, that Kansas might be more affordable for you?

Affordable housing is not only an East Idaho problem. It it is statewide. Same here in North Idaho. Exactly the same. There are no easy solutions.
