my daughter is an Audiologist so what I have learned from her is headphones not only won't help but also may do more damage. Of course they seem to be helping at the time but in the long run they contribute to ear issues.

Hi there, I'm 50 something also and I too suffer from ringing, buzzing and all of the above in my left ear, been to a hearing Dr. and my regular Dr and both say it's an aging issuing. Never felt old until they said that. They say it's something we need to get use too as there is no cure.

don't let that jerk doc make you feel bad Tressa. My ears started ringing when I was 28 and never stopped. My daughter, the good doctor, has had the same issue since she was 16. Age is not the issue. They are looking into a cure but I wouldn't expect one real soon. There are implants some are choosing to use now that mask the noise but I don't think I want that. I'll just use my sound machine on bad nights.

fiddlekitten's analysis makes me think that age is not the issue, I started having that problem 10 years ago.I think it has to do with my sinuses,I need to work on that

Excellent post fiddlekitten. A thorough doctor probably should have him see an audiologist and have MRI done to rule out acoustic neuroma. Not sure if benign positional vertigo can cause tinnitus? But should probably see otolaryngologist for manuevers to rule it out. If just simple tinnitus, got to get the "white noise" machine or a fan for nighttime use.

Default tinnitus should be outlawed

I absolutely hate it. I have been having tinnitus since 1993, due to ignorance in not using earplugs while shooting. Sometimes like right now, the ringing is so loud, it overpowers everything. Just one incident caused mine, and a lifetime to deal with it.

I lost hearing too, in that incident that caused the tinnitus, but dealing with the ringing in BOTH ears , is stressful. I can deal with the hearing loss much better than the perpetual ringing and frying sound.

My advice to anyone is avoid loud noises, wear ear protection and turn the music down.

Its a shame that modern medicine has advanced so much in correcting vision problems such as cataracts, but has lagged behind in ear and auditory issues.

I found this in a health book, but i don't know if it works. eating certain foods can cause tinnitus for some people, foods like cheese, red wine, salt, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. remove the suspected food for a month, and then see if it worked. add it back into your diet slowly to see if tinnitus comes back.
