I purchased 3 bottles of a store brand sports drink from a local grocery store. After pouring a glass for my teenage daughter, and her downing a couple of gulps, she realized that something is horribly wrong. I taste it and wholeheartedly agree. It kind of smells like machine oil, some horrible toxic, chemical NON FOOD kind of smell. Well, after calling the Corporate office, they told me to return the product and it would be sent back and tested and I would hear something in about 3 weeks. The store just wanted to give me my $2. but I really wanted to know what we engested. I also wanted them to show a little concern about the other people who could be giving this to their children! This just wasn't a case of spoilage! Well, I had to call the corporate office again because the store only wanted to refund my money. They tried to tell me, like I was some kind of blittering idiot, that this is what the product is supposed to taste like, they get frequent complaints about it, but there is nothing wrong with it and not everyone likes it. After telling them how insulted I was, I explained that I bought this product frequently and was well aware of what it was supposed to taste like and I think if it was sitting in front of them they could not be paid a million dollars to drink a glass. I also voiced my displeasure about their lack of concern, considering many Mom's give sick children sport's drinks, without tasting it themselves.
Now they have assured me they will contact the store to make sure they return the product.
Should I do anything else here? They seemed to feel that since I didn't get sick, what is the problem, but actually 10 cockroaches in your hamburger won't make you sick, eating worms unknowingly won't make you sick...
I would just like to know what was in there!!!

If it were me I would check around local first and see where I could get this drink tested, If the other 2 bottles are unopened...leave them that way and have them tested also. I wouldn't return these drinks, perhaps your local Health Dept. could steer you in the right direction for testing.

I was told by Poison Control to look for labratories in the yellow pages and they could test it but I'm guessing that would cost me a fortune. Maybe I will try the Health Dept. If I do take it to the store, you can be sure I will keep some for my own purposes.

I would just go to another store location, and buy the same product. Make sure it has a different expiration date and/or lot number. Open it. If it smells the same, the product probably just sucks, lol. It's cheaper than getting it tested, and probably just as accurate.

I would not take it back to the store, as stores do not care, they will just give the money back and throw the bottle away.
I would check with like a public health nurse, she maybe able to help, but I would want an answer to what it was I drank. Keep us informed, you never know when something may come up that we may have to do the same thing. Thanks!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!

I would have it tested and make them pay for it. You may not be sick now, but you could be in 10 years. You should know what you drank.

I am curious as to which sport drink it was. I had pnuemonia 3 weeks ago for 2 weeks and I drank Gatorade until I was sick of it. I hope that's not what it was. As a matter of fact, one of those nights, I woke up with a chemically like taste in my mouth. It could possibly have been the antibiotic I was taking at the time....but I was just wondering which it was that you gave your daughter.

Thanks 33458, I'll check that out.
It was Weis brand Artic Freeze, it is blue in color and it is there version of Gatorade. The thing that really makes me mad is that they told me they get a lot of complaints about this product with the same things I said. I told them I purchase this product all the time, I know what it is supposed to taste like, I wouldn't buy it if I didn't like it!! I bought 3 bottles and only 1 has this horribly foul odor and taste. Beleive me, you would not have drank this like crazy, it would be like drinking nail poliosh remover.
I want it tested to know what it was that we drank. Hey, if there was lead in your water, would you show signs of illness right away? They seem to feel that if I didn't get sick they don't know what the fuss is all about.

I would not take anything that they say, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO HAVE IT TESTED, AND TO KNOW WHAT YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN DRANK. If it comes back with something that was dangerous to you health, I would make sure I brought down anyone that made a muss about NOT HAVING IT TESTED. Do not give up, some news stations would eat this up, they could put the word out, and then someone would come forth, and test it for you. It happens in areas like ours, so just another thought. Take care, and keep us posted.
