Using cannabis may cause changes in the human body's epigenome, a study of over 1,000 adults suggests. The epigenome functions like a set of switches, activating or deactivating genes to change how our bodies function.
"We observed associations between cumulative marijuana use and multiple epigenetic markers across time," Lifang Hou, a preventative medical doctor and epidemiologist from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine explained in July 2023.
Cannabis is a commonly used substance in the United States, with 49 percent of people trying it at least once, Hou and a team of US researchers report in their published paper. Some US states and other countries have made it legal, but we still don't fully understand its effects on our health.
It may be legal in many states and even when still illegal, still highly used by many many people, we still do not know all health dangers.
Epigenetics is a relatively new area of study. We're really just in the information gathering stage, and we don't know what the info means.....DNA is subject to chemical changes (often by adding a methyl group to the sugar backbone of the DNA) which may serve to activate or de-activate that gene..,Apparently this paper found that dope users have more of those changes than non-users....(? which is cause, which is effect?)
A big review of cannabis use was published in NEJM 10 or 15 y/a. They found little evidence that casual use caused any problems at all....While there may be no physical harm, I personally wonder about the mental health of those who feel compelled to use the stuff. It's such a pity that some people have to resort to use of chemicals to induce a feeling of happiness.
Not surprising since it's used for pain in some cases ie nervous system.. Since they say it can remain in system for 30 days without the high the questions is what are those remaining chemicals doing if not making a person high.

I see it as being used more to induce a feeling of being stoned, not happy - more typically an introspective feeling imo

I don't think using it casually is any different than drinking casually. What makes you think they :have to resort" to cannabis, while wine drinkers are simply choosing a drug that makes them feel relaxed?

Nothing. It is stored in fat, so it stays until the fat i burned off, but it doesn't have any effects on the body then. Just like fat soluble vitamins get stored in fat, like A, D, E, while others like B vitamins are water soluble.

Well, pot does that too, with the munchies. When I was young and in 7-11 microwaving cheeseburgers at 3am, that was booze. At home eating a chicken pot pie followed by a sleeve of Oreos was pot, lol.
Key word warning here...."may". So this is a meaningless study to me. Also, ONE study is worthless, you have to have multiple studies done by reputable medical facilities and doctors, and you have to know who is paying for the studies.
When one of the founders of this alleged publication above is listed as "a failed neuroscientist"!!! Hmmm, I am a wee bit cautious about it, LOL!
Where do you folks find these things? Please, go to Scientific American (which is not great, but gooder than the publication above) or other reputable publications.
