I have been having stabbing chest pain that radiates into my shoulder and shoulder blade and down my arm x 3 weeks. It never lets up, no matter what I do. I’ve been to the ER twice and they’ve ruled out everything serious (cardiac, pulmonary embolism, etc).
I’ve tried every over the counter remedy, Aleve, Advil, Tylenol, topical analgesics, heat, ice, stretching exercises. I’ve even been to a chiropractor for treatment. I’ve also visited my primary dr office and they can’t explain it either. Labs, X-rays, EKG’s, CT scans are all normal.
I feel like I’m going to lose my mind, the pain is so sharp and unrelenting.
ER will rule out all those things that may cause a somewhat immediate death.
You need to see a GP or similar to start testing for things that are not an immediate threat.
Things I've had that had similar symptoms? A pulled muscle (would have bet on a heart attack except it was on my right side), and it last for over a month. Pleurisy, not exact but very similar. Gallstones. Didn't run down my arm but most of the pain was in my back.

I would consult another physician or two or three until I found an answer for the unrelenting pain, vikesfanmb. Be your own advocate.
Go to your actual regular normal doctor so he can either direct you to the appropriate specialist, or treat you on the spot for whatever it ends up being.

Thank you. I’ve been to my regular dr and she is stumped too. She re-ran a bunch of tests, but could not find anything wrong.
It sounds like your regular doctor needs to refer you to a specialist, many times they don’t like to do this. I wonder if you need to see a neurologist.
Usually any tests the specialist takes are much more sensitive and thorough.
Hey, VikesFan-- just catching up here-- noticed your thread about the ovarian mass too--
While the er docs checked for the things any med student would know enough to do, other causes of neck/shoulder/arm/chest pain could include pneumothorax, pleural effusion (from a tumor in the abd?) gallbladder or other abd problems (like an ovarian mass?) or cervical neuropathy or obviously an orthopedic/muscle spasm problem of the neck/shoulder/upper back etc.
General rule-- you're more likely to have one problem with two symptoms than two coincidental but separate problems.

Thanks, I will follow up on this. I saw the surgeon today about my ovarian mass and I’m scheduled for surgery in early May.

The mother of my son's teenage friend was having issues that resembled a heart attack. She went to the ER two or three times within the next few days, they eventually admitted her for more testing. She was there a few days, they ruled everything out. She was getting discharged until she really had a heart attack, where she would probably be dead if she had been discharged. They rushed her to surgery, wish I could remember what they did, I believe she had blockages in a few places.
Heart attack symptoms are different in women then men. Make sure you know the signs in case you really are having a cardiac issue. I used to have symptoms back when my son's friend had her heart attack, she had seen a female heart attack symptoms image I had posted to my Facebook. I eventually started having high blood pressure which I've been dealing with for the past year.
