I think that was mentioned in The Secret Life of Plants back in the '70s.

For ages, cooks killed lobsters by dumping them in boiling water. Now the "humane" way is to drive a knife through the brainstem.

I wonder if there's a humane way to kill and cook plants.

This thread is a hoot. I have to swallow my coffee before reading the next post or I might spit it out.

Oh, right. Go to a pig or beef slaughterhouse and then make that claim.

oh, sorry. I got distracted for a second by the screaming tree outside as it was being nibbled on by birds.
So you didn't understand referential then, or now. Got it.

I guess the triggered folks will have to figure it out. Not only that, but raised humanely as well. The paper discusses how farmers could use machines to listen in to detect when plants are distressed. We might be seeing "humanely raised" labels on plant foods to appease them.

If everyone actually read the article, it says plants communicate emitting sounds that humans cannot hear. Of course they don't "scream" This has been known for decades, it is nothing new.

There have been numerous studies that show that playing soft classical music near them helps them grow. Talking to your plants helps, but that has been ascribed to blowing carbon dioxide on them with your breath which causes photosynthesis.

There's nothing about Mother nature that's benevolent. It's always been survival of the fittest and the chain of consumption. We kill to eat and survive no matter what we eat- animal or vegetable. Then we die like everything else alive.

So who's complaining louder, the kid who has to eat the veggies he's not crazy about, or the veggies being eaten?

If we "need a balanced" diet then how are there millions of vegans?

I told you to look up the data and do your own calculations like I do. I don't need others to analyze and form opinions for me.

There may be 3 million vegans in this country (thanks to high fuel inputs to ship produce in from all over the world for them) but let me tell you, it's a real challenge to provide medical management for their scrawny little protein & calorie malnourished bodies when they are seriously Ill on the ICU.
