Good job. I quit 24 years ago. My advice to people who think they can't quit smoking is KEEP TRYING. Whether you quit once, twice, or a hundred times, eventually you will quit for good so long as you KEEP TRYING.
A friend of mine was a HEAVY smoker and he quit cold turkey. He got life threatening edema from quitting the nicotine suddenly. He wound up in the ER. I didn't even know this was a thing. They told him good job on the quitting, but to use nicotine patches and reduce the nicotine levels over time.
Congrats on your year anniversary!! You can continue to be smoke free!! Awesome!
I smoked for 30+ years and quit 17 years ago, I still get the occasional thought of --- where is my cigarette??? It's not a craving, just a split second thought.
5 packs/day. It was sometime back in the 80s when I quit. Now @ age 77 I recently saw a pulmonary doc.
He couldn't believe my lung function was so good given that history. I told him "Well, I guess I quit in time!"
Good for you, just be careful. I had also quit for a year when I decided to go back to painting. The canvas was in front of me, a brush was in my right hand, and for the first time ever I didn't have a cigarette in my other hand. Fortunately, there was a little Stop n Rob across the street, and I was right back to smoking.
Years later I decided to clean my act up again because I was moving to Hawaii the next day. I threw my freshly lit cigarette onto the Market Street sidewalk in San Francisco (they'd probably arrest me for that today, although if it was weed, no worries). That was December 7, 1992. So far so good. They still smell great, I'll go sit next to someone just to enjoy it.
