What is everyone's experience with COVID infections this winter? In my local area, seems like tons of people sick but hardly anyone is doing any testing since many you have to pay $20 at CVS now for a box if you didn't order the free one.

CDC still has 5 days isolation I think, but you can use a negative testing strategy to end sooner?

Seems like most common is a sudden, bad sore throat, nasal congestion or runny nose and chills WITHOUT fever. That could be a common cold also I guess. These are the symptoms I've seen with people who have had 2 covid vaccines. Many didn't get the latest on that came out in the fall 2023.

In terms of Paxlovid, they are still not handing that out very easily.

Covid is still around? Could have fooled me. I haven't heard a single peep about Covid here in Knoxville, TN. I have heard there is a flu bug going around, but not a single word from the news or at stores around town, that I have noticed.

I realize Covid still exists as a continuing mutation but it seems to be so mild that nobody even thinks twice about it anymore, or else so many of us are immune to it that it is a non issue.

Edit: I just checked the Tennessee website. It seems since Feb 2023, cases have been minimal to almost non-existent.

No experience. I haven't talked to anyone who's gotten it this winter. Whether that's because they tested negative or they didn't test, who knows? Granted, my social circle is small, but I've only known a couple of people who contracted it (positive test results) or knew someone who did over the past year or so. Most people I know have started paying more attention when they're obviously sick and took precautions: distancing or avoiding others, paying more attention to hygiene, etc.

Yep, that's the thing. Nobody tests anymore, and at $20 for a test from CVS, who is going to do that?

Many areas report slight increases in Covid by testing waste water.

Just was wondering how the symptoms are these days if you do get it - mild, annoying, etc?

Husband and I both tested positive after coming home from a S. America vacation in Dec 2023
.
He had night sweats, fever, chills, runny nose and bronchial cough. All in all, he showed symptoms for about 10 days.

I started symptoms about 4 days after him...I had a runny nose, and exhaustion. Lasted maybe 4 days.

Neither felt any need to seek medical treatment.

3-4 days, weakest one yet. 3 of us had it -- headache was our main complaint

Read an article the other day about the latest variant that said headache and diarrhea tend to be the main symptoms, while loss of taste/smell are rare with this one.

Had it this winter. The home tests don't seem to work. I tested three times and finally got a positive day 4 after symptoms. Could be that the home tests were expired. Whole family had it which is why i knew I did. Wife had it after me and didn't get a positive test until day 3/4 as well (after a few tests)

Symptoms were the same as when i had it 2 years ago (this is my 2nd time). Aches/chills/headache and 102 fever on day 1. Day 2 and 3 I felt way better but had a 100-102 fever, but I could do things fine. Took me about 5 days to get all my energy back. Overall for me it wasn't a big deal. I was in my mid 40's EDIT: I did not get a flu/covid vaccine this year.

This is the 2nd time my family has had covid and everyone had symptoms identical to the first time we had it 2 years ago. My 6 year old had a fever for 1/2 a day and that was it. My 11-year old had a bad stomach ache and fever, and my wife was in bed and slept pretty much 24-36 hours straight. Pretty much the same for each of us as the first go-around. Intensity of symptoms was about the same.

I got a virus Dec 23 that lasted strongly 3 weeks. I know others with similar long-term symptoms.
I hardly go out to be exposed but holidays mean group events so...
Never tested for Covid because no fever but it is/was a very bad virus, bad mucus, very bad cough.
I've had all shots,Covid, flu,RSV
Let's call it "no name virus" it's real

I had COVID in late November. I used the home test I got from the government and it worked just fine. Headache, body ache, pressure (not pain) in my upper chest, restricted breathing (I could breathe, but it took more effort than usual), dry cough.

Two months later and the dry cough is still there, but not as often. It feels like smoker's cough. Doctor says it'll linger however long it chooses, indefinitely. Might go away, might not.
