My mood and productivity is noticeably better when there’s sunshine.

We’re currently having heavy rain and overcast conditions here in Northern California, and I feel sluggish and a bit moody. I’ll usually cheer up when the sunlight appears.

Just speaking for myself, your mileage may vary.

I've always loved overcast and rainy winter days which is convenient because I am from Mid-Atlantic state where that happens. My DNA is 99% British and Irish and I thought that explained it but my husband hates gray winter days, loves sunny weather and his DNA is super similar. He thinks he has SAD but it's not too bad.

I grew up in Florida however and got used to sunshine and rain. Later we retired from Mid-Atlantic to Florida and the heat became oppressive so now live in North Carolina and yay I get some overcast days to enjoy. It's sunny a lot here but easy to drive to mountains for less humidity in summer.

In Sydney today the expected maximum temperature is supposed to reach about F95 on the coast and over F100 in the west of the met area. Hotter tomorrow and I loathe this weather.

I am redheaded so there may be a genetic reason I get miserable in hot sunny weather. But probably mostly the need to keep out of the sun because of skin damage.

Depression is a state of mind. One is inextricably intertwined with the other. Among other things, studies like these draw the connections between weather and one's state of mind/depression. BTW, depression involves a lot more than "happiness". That's an obnoxious outdated oversimplification.

88f to 94f water temps. I hate it here as it would make anyone wanna roll over and die.

I love the sun...when I'm safe in the shade.

Too much sun, especially coupled with heat, is a prescription for a low heavy mood for me.

Full sun, temps in the high 70's/low 80's. I would be in heaven.

Sunny days make me very happy.

Not true.

Happiness comes from within. Really happy people can live anywhere.

I've always been a proponent of everything in moderation.

Sure sunshine is inherently "happier" than cloudy. But day after day of full sun kinda wears you down.

Someone stated that the temperature matters more... I agree. During the Winter the warmth of the sun is 100% happiness. But during a heatwave in the Summer, the sun is hated and a cloudy day is better.

I've always wondered if I would want to retire in a sunny warm / hot State like Florida. Nah. I love the variety that 4 different seasons gives me. Sure I get tired of the bone chilling cold of Winter, but then Spring comes and it feels amazing.

A string of cloudy "dreary" days makes you appreciate a nice bright sunny one.

Same goes with a week of sunny days makes you appreciate a cloudy one.

Though I do take Vitamin D during our cloudy dreary Winters.

I got SADD in the winter when I lived in the PNW and so happy now to be living in super sunny Phoenix, I couldn't go back to living in a gray and glooming climate.
