My doctor prescribed Amlodipine 2.5mg's blood pressure medication for me, however I have read that it can cause heart irregularity and rhythm side effects. From what I have read the side effects stated in the product insert do not accurately reflect a lot of peoples experience using this drug. Has anyone in this forum taken Amlodipine and have been troubled with heart beat irregularity or extra beat problems from the drug.

These side effects mostly happen at higher dosages (10mg for example).

Of course, everyone's experience with a drug is different, so if you notice any rhythm irregularity, please contact your doctor. Also pay attention to swelling of the lower extremities.

I've been taking Amlodipine 5mg for over 20 years daily without any problems or worries.

I take it in 2.5 mg (along with two other blood pressure meds)

It feels like my heart is pounding. Don't know if that's an issue or not--will discuss with my Doc at Jan. appt.

According to Merck Manual, heartbeat changes are a common side effect with this drug.

2.5 is barely there I'd not be concerned. I'm on 5. It took some getting used to.

With due respect, everyone reacts to drugs differently. In small amounts, too.

If a drug's causing a reaction, it should be investigated.

Several different drugs commonly used for hypertension treatment can cause irregular heartbeat. What matters is how well YOU personally tolerate amlodipine.

I am taking amlodipine precisely because I was unable to tolerate the side effects of two other categories of anti-hypertensive medication, one of which (hydrochlorothiazide) gave me an irregular heartbeat. I have had no issues with irregular heartbeat on amlodipine.
