I take fish oil and restasis. I also have plugs in my lower tear ducts.

Restatis works for me. I tried Xydra but it gave me a metallic taste (yes, I am talking about eye drops).

Also hot washcloth applied to the eyes in the shower for a minute or so.

I found that I have to stay away from any eye drops which contain preservatives as they made my dry eyes much worse. I now use TheraTears Extra, which is preservative-free, and have had success with it. Might be worth a try if you haven't already done so.

Dry eyes are miserable - hope you find a workable solution.

If you had dry eye before cataract surgery, did it make it worse?

No, it didn’t make mine worse, I would say it’s about the same. I was terrified to have cataract surgery, but it actually improved my vision, quite dramatically.

Are those plugs permanent or temporary? Can you feel them? How do they relieve dry eye?

Temporary, but mine have been in over a year. They drove me nuts the first week, but now I do not feel them. They block the duct so your tears can't drain as quickly.
