I've always had weak nails that split and break--EXCEPT after I've been in the hospital. A recent 3 week stay left me with healthy, strong nails for a month or so, but now they're back to brittle. This has happened before.

I had enteric feeding for at least a week. The food the rest of the time wasn't anything special.

What are they giving me in hospital that my nails love?

Well, you probably weren't using your hands that much and doing activities that cause your nails to split and break while you were hospitalized.

As said above ^^^,

It may not be anything they are giving you, but what you are not doing at home, that clears your nails.

You might find some tips here:

Agree. We certainly don't have any details about your diet at home OP to compare to. Have you ever heard of Occam's Razor?

perhaps it's because you change your diet when you get out of the hospital? maybe try eating what they fed you?

Most likely less exposure to water, soaps and cleaning products.
Check what you're using. Perhaps is time to use organic or wear gloves?
There are great nail products like:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HGWGVS/
and

https://www.amazon.com/LONDONTOWN-St..._s_a_1_10_sspa

Or
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0037MIMLW (my new favorite)

Also great to moisturize your toe nails. Apply on your nails and skin around it.

I don't do dishes, I have a husband for that.
But that's a good point.

I eat better at home; hospital food includes lots of white carbs.
