I’m looking to get info as to which approach you or a loved one used and how happy you are with it.

Thanks! I have a choice of 2 doctors. First guy has a lot of experience but only does posterior. The other doc is younger and said that he had approximately 800-1000 surgeries under his belt, but he does the anterior approach.

There is also a third approach: lateral.

Mine was a lateral. Straightforward healing, no complications, and it's been trouble free for over 20 years. Of course, YMMV.

My Doc is young and has at least 6 years or surgeries under his belt. He said it was 800-1000. He advertises that he employs robotics so I think that I should be alright.
I’m thinking of filming as much as I can and posting it on YouTube.

I happened to watch a televised THR procedure some time before. I'm not squeamish (biologist brain ) so I hoped to watch the surgery for myself and opted for a spinal block/who knows what mild relaxation aid instead of general anesthesia. Unfortunately, I kept dozing off. Very disappointed to learn what I missed. All I remembered was the noise: drill, saw, screwdriver, and hammer. Should have had someone else record it.

I had a left hip total joint replacement 3 weeks ago. The surgeon called it a modified posterior approach. So it's only preliminary but after 2 weeks with a walker I am now using only a cane to walk. Pain is minimal and mostly after PT. I took my last narcotic based pain med 5 days ago. Physical Therapy is going well. The therapist said I was hitting all the marks. I have never had surgery before so I really have nothing to compare it to. Anesthesia was a spinal block and deep sedation. Up and Walking 16 hours after surgery. Went home at noon the day after surgery.
