Warm compresses are an easy, non-invasive fix.

Try one of these masks before you embark on a pharmaceutical solution.

When I moved to the desert getting a humidifier in my bedroom became very important
We have all the ceiling fans and they do irritate my eyes
Be sure when you are trying to open your eyes that you go and get warm compresses like a warm washcloth or you can even use Saline or A non-hydrogen peroxide contact lens solution that you drench your eyes with before you try to open them. Forcing them open as what causes the damage
Drinking tons of water is of course recommended
Also using moisturizer eyedrops throughout the day will also help.

How can a ceiling fan dry out your eyes when your eyelids are closed???

Thank you all for the suggestions; I'm inclined to try the warm compresses first.

I don't know, they just do. My dry eyes are 10x worse when the fan is running. I've used many different brands of eye drops. Unfortunately, the most effective is also the most expensive:

It's cheapest at Costco. I don't know why but my eyes are only dry in the middle of the night and morning. They are fine all day long.
