"Major Medical" Insurance? (kidney, doctor, heart, cancer)

Looking for some options. In the old days (pre-O-care) we used to be able to buy "major medical" insurance. It only covered the major issues-the things that could cause bankruptcy. Cancer, major trauma, accidents. High deductible. I'm looking for options along those lines now. My wife (61) has switched jobs to home health care-they don't offer a HC plan. She has a plan with a local "cash only" (direct primary care) doctor for $65 a month. But of course it doesn't cover hospitalization or the "big stuff". Under the current health care laws, is such a plan (catastrophic care?) still available? An "Obamacare approved" plan is not affordable. We make too much to qualify for any subsidies, but not enough to readily afford $1000 or so a month for a very high deductible plan that offers little more than "major medical".

Figure out how to make yourself judgement proof.
Its not rocket science....or you will be a sitting duck.

Yes they are available. Lots of scams out there with fixed indemnity plans that wont pay out hardly anything.
See if you can get a short term regular health ins policy with a high deductible, and get catastrophic coverage policy that will pay out like 20k for heart attack, cancer, coma, kidney failure, etc. I did that for my 59 yr old brother in tx (some of the highest ins rates around), and it was 349. Mo for both policies combined.
