Sodas will often contain benzoic acid, which can almost guarantee kidney stone issues is used indiscriminately. Tea, of course, has similar issues. Club soda that contains sodium (bicarbonate) is not good either. What you want is seltzer water that is made by pushing carbon dioxide gas into the water. Syfo, and some of the flavored sparkling waters are made like this. My favorite is the Publix lemon-lime sparkling water, which is inexpensive and has minimal ingredients. If you go to a restaurant, often one of the soda fountain taps has a lever for just carbonated water. It is great for cleaning grills.
If you want to cleanse, then distilled water is the best. Since drinking 24 oz of distilled water each night, I have not had any kidney stone problems. It makes sense to sometimes take a multi-mineral, and a bit of magnesium asporotate to make up for any losses through excretion.
Perrier can be very expensive, especially when you take into account how much water a person is "suppose" to drink in a day. If you have good water where you live just turn on the faucet. As far as taste, squeeze a little fresh lemon in it, that is good for you as well.
If you have ANY urinary tract issues, be very careful with mineral water!
I can verify everything the previous poster stated. I don't often post on message boards, but my experience was so unnerving I had to share and hopefully spare others...
Thanks for sharing your experience. Don't try this, of course, but I wonder if you are Magnesium deficient and that was leading to the extra Calcium causing a problem. You weren't taking an excessive amount of Calcium, at least from Perrier alone.
Another thing to consider is that effervescent delivery systems for medicine and nutrients enhance the absorption. The carbonation might have been causing your body to absorb the Calcium at a very high rate. That might mean that even taking in half the RDI of Calcium with a carbonated drink could lead to Calcium excess.
Wow, I DO love the Perrier and San Pellegrino... I will exercise more caution when drinking it though. For me, the price was one thing that kept me from overdrinking it.
One suggestion/question is, have you considered (or does anybody know risks assiated with) something like "club soda" or "sparking water" from like the supermarket or walmart? Not classified as mineral water... and a lot cheaper.
I heat kidney stones are NOT fun! I heard drinking cranberry juice is good for you, but that is a different thing that water altogether.
If you drink cranberry juice for UTI's, be sure to buy it at a health store - not the grocery store. "Real" cranberry juice is very bitter, but when you have an infection, it helps. Maybe if taken soon enough, you might avoid a doctors visit.
I've been concerned with my health lately. Is perrier water good for your health? I need some water with a little taste that will keep your system slean. Any suggestions?
Perrier is water. So is what comes out of the tap, but it's a lot cheaper.
Why are you concerned about your health? Do you think you'll live forever?

Drinking too much carbonated liquids is not good for your kidneys and just plain water is the #1 way to "clean" your system.
Once you get used to drinking good plain water, you'll be pleased.
Just make sure it's pure water whether through filtration or good well water if you're lucky enough to have that.
It'll save you money as well and even if you have to spend money on some kind of filtering system, in the long run you'll save money.
Perrier is expensive!
Bottled water is healthy compared to soda or other sugary drinks. Based on numerous studies finding chemichals in bottled water I just can't call it healthy.
I really love the flavored "Syfo" - it's much cheaper than Perrier and no minerals or other stuff to worry about. I add a tiny bit of fruit juice to it for a "natural" soda. I do, however, drink a lot of plain water with a shot of lemon as well. Never have any problems this the Syfo.
I have seen others that imbibed tons of mineral water and ended up with health problems. Such problems went away on distilled water.
Personally I think mineral waters are good in moderation and also depending on the source probably do have some healthy minerals your body needs. I think a good mix of "real" fruit juice, distilled water, mineral water and tea(free of HFCS, etc) is the best bet.
My doctor told me to not drink any spring water because of bacteria count in some.
