I have been doing it for decades and my feet are still normal.

When you don't have arch supports, your feet probably get more exercise. As natural as possible and practical is usually better.

My arch collapsed and I was in searing pain the one summer I wore flip flops. How was that better?

I don't know. Maybe your feet were weak from wearing shoes and not walking much.

I lived and worked on hills and took public transport/walked everywhere. My feet were quire strong. Flip flops were not good for them.
