Do you think it's better to take your blood pressure medication in the morning or at night? Is it okay to take it with orange juice or milk or just water?

Follow the directions for the particular medication. If it is a diuretic or contains one, take it in the morning to avoid having to get up at night to go to the bathroom.

Ask the pharmacist whether food makes any difference.

I take Atenolol and a diuretic a while after breakfast and then the 5mg Amolodopine about 5PM. This works for me.

Right now,I'm only on 5mg of Lisinopril. When my doctor put me on it just a few months ago, she didn't specify anything except once a day. I just recently read on a reputable medical site that taking it at night could lessen the chance of attack or stroke and that taking it with juice could affect the absorption and effectiveness. I had been taking mine the same time as my other vitamin supplements in the morning with orange juice, but changed to night now and take it when I take my other calcium and fiber supplement. Will find out from doctor if it really matters. Was just wondering what others on here are doing and if they knew anything about this controversy over it. Thanks!

Ask a Pharmacist, as in the person who dispensed the meds to you, not your GP. None of us know if you're on OTHER medications which could impact the answer...

I warn you, the Pharmacist is going to groan when you say "I read this on the internet"... no one likes an armchair expert.

No,I am not on any other medication except eye drops. Yes,I know all about that.....my doctor doesn't like for me to question anything I've read on the internet or heard on a medical show either. She says the internet is making it very hard for them to do their job.

Mine only says once daily.....doesn’t specify morning or night,so it probably doesn’t matter as long as it’s consistent.👍🏻😊

mine the same, doesn't specify so I take it in the morning because I take thyroid as well and it has to be taken on an empty stomach.

I just found out that the pill lasts for 24 hours so it doesn’t matter if you take it morning or night. You can also take it with anything except alcohol which doesn’t affect me because I don’t drink alcohol.
