The foot/toe cramps seem to happen ( when sleeping after 4-5 hours ).

Needless to say, I get up and seem to get better right away, I apply Bio-freeze and I'm able to return to bed with no other issues till the next day or maybe 2-3 days later.

Any ideas for help as I'm getting to be an old senior

Low potassium, calcium, or magnesium per my PCP. I drink a glass of tonic water before bed on the advice of my podiatrist as it contains quinine which helps prevent cramps.

Sounds right to me. I get foot cramps that are only relieved by magnesium but I know other people whose leg or foot cramps are relieved if they eat a banana for the potassium. Quinine worked for my husband for a few years but then the cramps (restless legs) got worse and the right kind of zinc fixed that. If you are older, zinc deficiency is common.

All my "levels" are well within the healthy range (neither one extreme of the range or the other - but rather, in or near the very middle of normal). So I'm not deficient in anything other than vitamin D, and even then, only in the winter time.

I get toe cramps in the summer. Just my big toe, and not often. You know what made it worse - worrying about having a deficiency. I kid you not. The more I worried that I was deficient in something, the more often I got the cramps. So stress definitely has something to do with it. Stress, plus as I discovered - dehydration. I sweat more in the summer, and I do drink more water than I do in the winter, but I just needed to drink even more than that. I have fewer instances of cramping during weeks that I am more fully hydrated.

So try drinking more water, before you run out and drive yourself nuts experimenting with supplements. Rule out the obvious - then explore the exotic. It's the Zebra rule of medicine.

Yeah, well when you drink a LOT and still have the issue, try tonic/diet tonic water. It works.

I'm told to buy Smart Water and that will take care of those cramps.

Check your shoes too along with the advise posted on tonic and bananas. A lot of shoes now have upwards pointing toes: avoid at all cost! Go walk around if u can and really stretch and flex those toes even a bit help. I bought a Tempurpedic bed which helps immensely.
