There was also Salmonella food poisoning inside of me when they found stones and an infected GB. I think I ate an under-cooked old egg. The pain was severe. My surgeon said my GB was full of puss and I was in the hospital for 3 weeks on antibiotics following my GB removal with a bile bag attached, and given many tests. I was not told I had Pancreaitis. I was told I had a biliary leak from the surgery and a stent was inserted with endoscopic surgery. The bile stopped a few days later draining into the bag, they said my labs were good, I was given another xray, and then they released me. The pain isn't as bad as before, but it is a gnawing cramp, like a bad hunger pain, extended stomach with tightness, a pain that sometimes travels around the rib cage like a gas pain. Passing gas does not relieve it though. This is not constant. It happens on and off. It comes out of nowhere, or sometimes after I eat or worry about something. Stress exasperates it. I can walk without pain and have been to the store and lifted heavy bags and felt ok. I can lay down and sleep ok. This seems to mainly happen when I sit for too long. My bowel and bladder habits are good and a nurse comes here once a week to check my vitals which are good. My surgeon examined me and said it takes time and discounted it. I am seeing my primary care physician in two days. I told them on the phone I want another xray. I read online that I may have a relocation or blockage in the stent, a remaining stone, or ulcer. I do not know, it could be several things. I also have an appointment in December to remove the stent. I am worried because I read online that if stents do not work, then I will have to undergo surgery with a high mortality rate. Thank-you to all the Folks who have read my war story. I live alone like a hermit, never had a major health problem in my life until now, and just needed to talk..Thank-You.

I am so sorry. It's been about 9 years since my sphincterotomy surgery but your story brings back all of the emotions I had. I felt helpless and desperate for help, seeing so many different drs for 6 years... You describe a pain that I think you said radiates around your ribcage? My pancreatic pain radiated from my front RUQ over to my front LUQ and then swung around my left ribcage to then settle into my back, every evening. It was a debilitating pain. I saw a surgeon in Seattle, Dr Richard Kozarek who finally diagnosed me correctly and put an end to my suffering. It did take a long time for my pancreas to then heal and settle down. I had doubts during that time and requested my stent be removed early because of pain. Pancreatitis can be sneaky, masquerading as many different ailments. Mine never showed up on the many labs I had and was mistaken for gall bladder issues. My heart goes out to you. Find an excellent Dr, then give your body time to not be so reactive to all of the procedures you've recently been through. Low fat, low acid, (limit coffee ) limit vitamins, no additional supplements unless medically prescribed. Eat a bland safe diet. There was a time I could only eat saltines, rice noodle bowls or Carnation instant breakfast with milk because any amount of fat or acid triggered the pain. I lost over 20+ lbs. Opiates make pancreatic pain go thru the roof, never take them. Any Dr should know this, but you'd be surprised.

Withinpines; Thank-You very much for helping me. How are you? Washington has hospitals for very good medical care. I want to tell my Doctor today about SOD and Pancreatitis. I am asking for further tests and a referral to another specialist. You also said that these diseases were tricky to find and that you had to take sooo many different tests. What is the best test you know how to find pancreatitis and SOD?

Has anyone who has had these complications after having their gallbladder out NOT feel the pain worsen during walking or exercising? Walking or exercising does not worsen it. It just happens and leaves after about an hour everyday.

For future reference- The pain was caused by the stent insertion. After my biliary stent was removed on November 22, 2019, there has not been any more pain, nor any further complications.

makes sense.
even when thins go well it can take a long time to recover.
Major surgery can take a good year to recover from.

Just looking thru a portion of this thread and wonder if the Ox Bile recommendation has been taken by members here. I have my G.B. but take some Ox Bile daily as I find my systems works better with the Ox Bile. A lot of info out there on these two.

Then two months after I felt so I'll I had this odd pain on my chest I woke up like it one morning and then I felt as if I had a blister that was situated inside my chest if I breathed in it would be painful, after an 8 day stay in hospital.they let me home the pain carried on and I attended the GP 4 times in a month just to come out more upset as they were not concerned at all, I have seen my consultant who signed me off and got the doctor to tell me I had so much time off work that they started being sarcastic to me. The only thing I found that worked was going on a gluten free diet I would recommend anyone who has had gall bladder removal due to changes in dietary tract to get tested for crohs and celiac disease within a few days the pain stopped for me you need to be tested cause if it goes untreated it can cause nerve damage. I mean I tried everything from various pain killers to remedies to fizzy drinks, however three weeks later I started trying to introduce new foods and am.back to square one now with pains in my neck and chest so I am going to have to go back on the diet. I don't find the GP any good I think if they can't anything significant they ain't interested I should go back cause the last few days I feel lowsy but am fed up of being told it's post cholosectomy and they ain't interested it's a viscous circle you end up at all dead end roads that lead to nowhere and that makes you depressed but you get told you are depressed and that is why you feel way you do I have heard certain anti depressants can work for medical reasons because it shuts off the spincter and tricks your brain that's my next step to ask the GP. I don't think anyone realises what's it's like until they suffer.
I can only say I understand your suffering although I am not experiencing it. I have little trust in doctors although I go to them when I feel it necessary. My latest escapade is getting my husband's records from the ER when he went recently because he says they didn't give him a COVID test, their records say they did. And he is in very bad pain, although he was kept in the hospital for three days. They are putting off many other tests (including COVID) because the nurse explained the doctors are taking other patients now since the only-essential surgery ban has been lifted and others are on the waiting list. So I mentioned to her that people will die because they're not being attended to, and she just shrugged her shoulders. I finally had hernia surgery just before COVID hit, so glad I did otherwise I'd still be in the excruciating pain I was in, and the surgery helped me enormously, but I still have other problems with slow evacuation (in other words, constipation). But no pain like I used to have, so I am grateful about that. I am just saying that I am sympathetic with your dilemma, sorry to hear you are going through all of this, and hope you can find someone (hopefully a doctor or nutritionist or really caring medical expert) that can help you figure things out. Regards.
