Hello All,

I have a potential job offer starting in Summer 2023.

I am a 22 yr old fresh college graduate. Just wondering how Zlancaster area is for an Asian Immigrant ?
What are safe areas to look for a rental place

Is it safe area ? Crime wise / Racism wise

For a young female living on my own for first time, kind of little worried and concerned. I think it’s a good opportunity career wise but don’t want to end up in a bad place. Will be moving from a Metro area down south, so just little concerned.

Any advise/ suggestions

TIA.

Lancaster County as a whole is conservative-leaning. The rural areas of the County are going to be quite Republican/conservative, but Lancaster City itself is pretty liberal and diverse. I wouldn't necessarily associate that with racism, but it's something to be aware of. Those areas outside Lancaster City are almost entirely white. Crime in general is lower than in bigger metros.

That being said, in terms of Asian population, Harrisburg has a lot more than Lancaster. In Harrisburg (which even has a mini-Chinatown), the population is mostly Vietnamese and Chinese.

You probably want to live in the City of Lancaster, not in the county. The City is more diverse and more welcoming, also more fun. Most of the crime here is petty theft, so don't leave valuable stuff outside and unsecured. Not really different from any other city in that way. It's a small city and friendly. You'd probably like it here. Also the Amtrak is great for getting to Philadelphia and New York very easily when you want some bigger metropolitan amusements.

We've been here for about 2 years. The people are pretty much like people everywhere else.

For your requirements, living in the Lancaster City proper would be the best situation.
