Hi all,

We are beginning the college search and Dickinson, Susquehanna, and Gettysburg come up as contenders. I have read and gotten great insight and advice from city-data for years, so here are some questions:

1. How is the college and town relationship...is it friendly for the most part?
2. What is the town's "vibe;" that feeling of being there that only comes from being a part of the community or living near the community for a while? It's subjective of course, but is also not something that surveys or rankings can really pin down.
3. We're from the Sacramento, CA suburbs, so our kiddo is used to very different weather. Climate zones can only tell you so much when you're not living in the environment. Dickinson, Susquehanna, and Gettysburg have different climates too...so when do the daffodils start to bloom in Carlisle, Selinsgrove, and Gettysburg?
4. Anyone willing to share their experiences with the university/college on their own are welcome too!

Thanks in advance

Dickinson is probably the most competitive, then Gettysburg, then Susquehanna. All 3 are good schools. Gettysburg probably has the greatest name recognition and is a beautiful campus, Gettysburg is a very historic town, good college as a stepping stone into professional school like med/law school. Susquehanna is in Selinsgrove, more laid back, less populated, cute town, has it's own vibe, probably more protective environment. Dickinson is associated with the Dickinson Law School, and lots of pre-legal students.

All 3 have similar climates, and in terms of environment, most laid back and protective would be Susquehanna, then Gettysburg, then Dickinson. But all 3 are good schools, it really comes down to fine details and the personality of the student. May want to look at Bucknell in Lewisburg also, very good school, but very competitive, great name recognition, great stepping stone into professional school, beautiful campus, lots of out of staters, diverse, great vibe and connection to Lewisburg which has a spicy vibe because of the University. Very expensive.

Good luck with your decision!

You've cut-and-pasted this exact same post on 15 different forums, all across the country; dang, that "contender" list is getting pretty long! And never with any replies or follow-up questions . . . Care to tell us a little more about that "kiddo" of yours? What is he/she/they interested in studying?
