Can someone tell me the names of some of the more rural and/or smaller towns in York County? I am researching for retirement. Thank you!

Google York, PA and click on the map. Expand the map and you can see what towns are located in the County. York is noteworthy for its huge industrial base even though they lost pfaltzgraff china, Caterpillar and will soon lose Glattfelter Paper. See link.

Isn’t PA a terrible state to retire in because of the inheritance tax? Might be better off in Delaware. If you’re really itching to live in PA, is there anything that you would prefer? Tons and tons of small towns...

PA is rather middle of the pack from what I've seen. Has a higher inheritance tax but doesn't tax retirement income (can be a huge bonus for some people).
Delaware is more affordable than the Philly metro but it isn't really that cheaper than rural PA.

Hanover and Shrewsbury are growing areas with lots of new housing, though you'll have to compete with people moving from across the Maryland line. I quite like the Dillsburg and Lewisberry areas in the northern part of the county. Central and southern York county feels a bit too "towny" to me.

I can agree with this assessment. Even though Baltimore is the closest major city in York, and there's some Ravens and Orioles fans around York County, it's still a part of South Central PA.

Even though in the past, there was a rail link between Baltimore and York, nowadays, due to politics, it's not going to happen. It makes a lot of sense to link the two cities, but it's just not going to happen, IMO. I can only hope the Corridor One rail project or something similar happens just to link the South Central cities together.
