I was driving down Gate City Blvd today and notice clearing on two large lots. One looks like it will be a rebuild of a BP gas station (the only reason I say that is because nearly everything is gone but the BP sign) and the other one (much larger) is within a few hundred yards of the GC. Does anyone know what these sites are being prepped for?
According to the Koury website, this area (not near the Coliseum as I previously noted, but across from the Koury Convention Center and Sheraton Hotel) will be home to the following: 1) Starbucks (on the corner), 2) Chipotle, and 3) Whataburger. I think these are great options for that part of the city.
Those are great additions to the aera and will provide much needed ”curb Appeal” with their presence!! Chipotle has been springing up all over the place. Their new one on battleground seems to be doing good business! I'm glad some business are taking interest in coliseum area. Definitely coud be a great start to a turning point of that area!!!

1. Starbucks: Yawn
2. Chipotle: Yawn.
3. Whataburger: You had my curiosity but now you have my attention.
Good to see something different going over there. Starbucks seems to be part of every small development these days though. I know they wouldn't build them if they weren't making money... but how many of these Starbucks do we really need?

I'm just glad they are more of the "Upscale " chain stores / fast casual food places. that's what's gonna help that aera! It could of been cricket cell phones, pawn shop, mattress store.. So I'd def take a Starbucks over any of those others!! Heck, if a Starbucks had to go in every new shopping strip here in Greensboro just to draw other good stores around it , id be fine with that!

Whataburger is cool. They just announced the first NC opening in Charlotte. However I was hoping Koury Corp would be a little more ambitious with the site the way Joe Koury would if he were alive. I've always believed the land could have been included in a long range plan for a possible convention center expansion which could doubled the size of the Koury Convention Center along with a few entertainment venues. Today Koury Corp just wants to develop sites and just make money. When Joe Koury was alive, the company had a vision for the city and his vision for the site would have been bigger than a Starbucks and a few restaurants.

Perhaps they know there's not a market for for a convention center twice as big as the current one?
