Some press releases and posts have been worded like we are starting to see the benefits of Boom's investment in NC. Really this is OUR investment in NC right now as taxpayers and Boom still hasn't had any risk exposure. The point is we have still not seen any progress in Boom themselves directly investing in the state with their own cash or hiring employees here so we still have a long way to go to see if Boom materializes as a viable employer here.

Boom, based in Denver and building a supersonic jet factory in Greensboro, says the investment, from a fund connected to a Saudi royal economic development project, pushes its backing to hundreds of millions. The NOEM Investment Fund invests in viable commercial projects and “moonshot ideas enabled by cutting-edge technologies." The northwest region of Saudi Arabia has been dubbed NOEM by Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of the Saudi ruling family whose vision is transform that region into a global innovation hub.

Boom Supersonic took a significant step Friday toward reviving supersonic consumer flight with the inaugural test of its XB-1 aircraft.

The successful flight took place at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California and was flown by chief test pilot Bill “Doc” Shoemaker.

This region in the Mojave Desert is the proving grounds for the aerospace industry, where speed and altitude records are set. It may be most famous for being the site where an aircraft broke the sound barrier for the first time in 1947.

The XB-1 is a prototype of what Boom projects will be its Overture supersonic airliner, a plane that will be manufactured at a $500 million “superfactory” on the grounds of Piedmont Triad International Airport. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
